CleanLiving Grace Sermon - February 12, 2012 | "Living on Purpose: The Plans of Jesus and the Disciples." (Mark 6:30-43) A sermon series from the Gospel of Mark. When Jesus and his disciples have a plan to get some rest and relaxation, they realize they have to instead find a way to feed over 5,000 people. They had a plan but had to also be flexibly faithful as they tapped into the resourcefulness of God the Father to make this big plan happen. Ask God to give you wisdom and insight about some planning you may need to do, and/or the strength to be faithfully flexible in the midst of living out the plans God has already placed on your heart. When Jesus heals them, he does so on more than just a physical level. His healing touch extends into their present and future life, relationships, emotions and even finances. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - January 29, 2012 | "Living on Purpose: Hearing Voices" (Mark 5:1-20) A sermon series from the Gospel of Mark. In Mark 5:1-20 we read about a man possessed by many demons who is experiencing the self destructive forces of evil. One way evil works in our lives is by speaking to us with 'voices'. Will you listen to those voices that will have you act and think in ways that will destroy you and your relationships, or will you listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit that will guide, inspire, and encourage you to build yourself and your relationships up? CleanLiving Grace Sermon - January 22, 2012 | "Living on Purpose: The Purpose of Parables" (Mark 4:1-20) A sermon series from the Gospel of Mark. Jesus tells a story about a farmer, seeds, weeds, birds and grain to prove deeper spiritual points about God and God's work on earth. This parable is about how, during times in your life when you are experiencing spiritual attacks, have worries, or are getting distracted by problems, you can rest and draw strength from God, like seeds being nurtured by good soil. Let God, in this time of anxiety, grow your faith and change your life. Teaching by Pastor James Lindberg, Living Grace Lutheran Church, Omaha, Nebraska, USA. | 1/23/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

CleanLiving Grace Sermon - October 23, 2011 | Signal / Noise: Tuning Into God's Guidance For Your Life - Exodus 12:29-39 - Life Interrupted. One of the ways God cuts through the noise of our daily lives and sends us the signal of his guidance is by interrupting us. Sometimes we have big life changing interruptions, and God wants to grow our lives during these times. God also interrupts us in small ways and he wants us to act on these interruptions he sends. This podcast will inspire you to follow that signal of interruption God will send you this week so you can bless others and be blessed by him. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - October 16, 2011 | Signal / Noise: Tuning Into God's Guidance For Your Life - Exodus 7:14-24. When we don't listen to God's guidance we miss out on the best God has in store for us. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - October 9, 2011 | Signal / Noise: Tuning Into God's Guidance For Your Life. Exodus 5:22-6:13. In our walk with God, there are three areas where we tune into the signal of God's work: God's past actions in our lives, God's working in our present circumstances and the hearing of God's future promises in the Bible. What are these promises of God in Exodus 5:22-6:13 and how do they apply to our lives? CleanLiving Grace Sermon - October 2, 2011 | Signal / Noise: Tuning Into God's Guidance For Your Life - Exodus 5 and 6. God uses difficult circumstances to get our attention and then teach us. So when you are facing difficult situations, the best question to ask is, "God, what type of knowledge or wisdom or character traits are you wanting to plant and grow in me in this situation? What is the signal of your teaching and desire for my growth amidst the noise of my thoughts, emotions, fears and insecurities of this situation?" CleanLiving Grace Sermon - September 25, 2011 | Signal / Noise: Tuning Into God's Guidance For Your Life - In Exodus 3, God uses his voice to communicate to Moses. Even though God speaks to us today primarily through the Bible, God still, at times, calls and guides us with an inner voice. How do you discern if an inner voice is God's? And are you willing to be quiet this week and tune out the noise and be open to hearing the voice of God? CleanLiving Grace Sermon - September 18, 2011 | One of the ways God guides us is by bringing into a situation where there is an opportunity or a need and then invites and inspires us to act. In Exodus 2, Miriam experienced a situation just like this with her baby brother Moses. But she didn't just stand there and do nothing when he was in trouble, she acted where there was a need. Over the next few days keep your eyes open for a situation where God places a need or an opportunity before you and then prompts you to act for the good of another person — then follow God's lead. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - September 11, 2011 | In Joshua 3 and 4 we find the Israelites about to take possession of the land God has promised for them. Before they can cross over into this land, they have to go through the overflowing Jordan River. God miraculously provides a dry path for them across the river, and they take 12 stones from the middle of the river to make a memorial. What are the stones of memorial in your life? What is something that reminds you of a time when God lead you miraculously through an 'overflowing Jordan River' time in your life? What is a reminder of a time when God acted powerfully in your life and gave you guidance and direction? In our worship service today we remember these memorials and thank God for the miraculous ways he guides us. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - September 4, 2011 | This passage from John 17:13-19 is not Jesus teaching, but him praying to God on behalf of his 11 disciples and us. We overhear in his prayer the delicate balance of the Christian's position in the world. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - August 21, 2011 | When Jesus teaches about our spiritual source, he uses the image of a grapevine, branches, and fruit. This illustrates not only the fruitfulness of our Christian life, but is a reminder that the source of our faithful actions are generated from God's eternal power. God also prunes us so that we can bear more fruit for his glory. What are the characteristics of a fruitful life? And how does God 'prune' us? CleanLiving Grace Sermon - August 14, 2011 | After Jesus was resurrected and ascended into heaven he sent the Holy Spirit to live in his followers. Before that time, they had only experienced the Spirit living with them (John 14:17). What does it mean for us that the Spirit now lives in us? It mens that Spirit help us to remember Jesus' words of truth and apply them to our lives. The Spirit also works on us at the level of our 'inclinations' to bring our thoughts and actions in line with God's will. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - July 3, 2011 | In Acts 9:1-19, Jesus leads Ananias to a difficult person named Saul, to do a difficult thing. Jesus wanted Ananias to speak a word of peace to Saul, heal him and change the course and direction of his life. Jesus equips Ananias to make a difference in Saul's life. How? Jesus changes Ananias' thinking, gives him courage, reduces his anxiety, gives him wisdom and the willingness to share Jesus' love and peace with Saul. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - May 29, 2011 | When Joseph finally comes face to face with his brothers who sold him into slavery 22 years earlier, he doesn't just rise to the occasion, he rises above it. He rises above in his words, behavior and his perspective of what God has been up to during the ups and downs of his life. How is God calling you to be like Joseph and rise above a challenging situation? This message will inspire you to do it. Teaching by Pastor James Lindberg from Genesis 45:1-11. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - May 22, 2011 | Through the difficult times of his life Joseph learned such things as patience, how to trust in God, how to take care of the little tasks he was entrusted with, and how to be at peace with others. His past experiences were not stumbling blocks but stepping stones to the future work God had in mind for him. How do you view the difficult experiences and failures of your past? Are they stumbling blocks that continually trip you up or are they stepping stones to the good plans God has in store for you? Teaching by Pastor James Lindberg from Genesis 41:33-57. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - May 15, 2011 | In tough times, if you're looking for a reversal of your fortunes, perhaps God is calling you to take care of what you can take care of and trust that he'll work on everything else. Joseph did that when he first came to Potiphar's house as a lowly Hebrew slave. Joseph did that when his world came crashing down and he found himself in a dark and dirty Egyptian prison. So stop worrying, start trusting God and take care of the 'business' you believe God is calling you to. Teaching from Genesis 39:1-23 by Pastor James Lindberg. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - May 8, 2011 | "If only I would have gone to a more prestigious school, gotten better grades, not bought that house, not married that person, not gotten divorced, taken that other job . . . if only . . . " If Joseph had 'if only' thoughts when he faced hard times, it wouldn't have made any difference and would have been a waste of his thoughts and energy. God had bigger and better plans for Joseph's life, and God made those plans a reality. God's view of you is way bigger than your 'if onlys.' And if the future vision and plans God has for your life are more important to him than your past, then you shouldn't waste another moment framing and defining your life by your 'if onlys.' CleanLiving Grace Sermon - April 24, 2011 | There are many people we would consider famous firsts like George Washington (the first US president) or Michael Jordan (the first basketball player to appear on a Wheeties box). In 1 Corinthians 15:20, Paul calls Jesus the "first of a great harvest." Because Jesus has risen from the dead we can be free from guilt about our past, free to make new choices today, and be free from having a 'dead end' future. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - April 17, 2011 | Most letters or e-mails end with words like: "Thank you," "Sincerely," "Best Wishes," or even "God bless." But 2,000 years ago, people tended to end their correspondence a little differently. They would fill their final paragraphs with instructions, brief challenges and encouraging words for their recipents. When Paul wraps up his letter to the Thessalonians, he does this same thing. Although his final instructions in this letter are many, God will be speaking to you through one of them. You can create your own sermon this Sunday. Teaching from 1 Thessalonians 5:14-17. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - April 10, 2011 | It seems like someone every few months is predicting the date of the end of the world. Unfortunately, for them, their projected end day comes and goes quietly. The world keeps turning, life continues on and their prediction is relegated to the dustbin of history. But the Apostle Paul instructs the Thessalonians believers that Jesus will return one day and the world as we know it will end. What does Paul say about this end times event? When will it happen? And how are we to live with the end in mind? Learn more in this sermon podcast. Teaching from 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - April 3, 2011 | Being ambitious is not a bad thing. Ambition can make us strive to better ourselves, our workplace, community and even our family. But an ambitious person doesn't necessarily have to be an obnoxious one. Do you have great ambitions and goals? That's a good thing! But is God calling you to transition your ambitions and goals for his glory, rather than yours? Teaching from 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - March 27, 2011 | Life was not easy for the Thessalonian Christians. They faced their fair share of persecution for their faith and felt grief at the loss of loved ones. Paul wants to make sure that they are not "shaken" by these troubles and sends his traveling companion Timothy to encourage them. Are you feeling "shaken" in your life right now? God can give you stillness and peace in the midst of your trials and troubles. Teaching from 1 Thessalonians 2:17-3:8. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - March 20, 2011 | Most of us, deep down, like to receive at least some sort of recognition and praise for our efforts. Liking to be praised is fine, but we should also have a certain amount of internal satisfaction from doing a job well done. Christians also derive internal satisfaction from doing what they believe God has called them to do. This kind of satisfaction is not based on receiving outward praise, but comes through pleasing God. We also praise others, not for what we can get from them, but to encourage them in life. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - March 13, 2011 | Role models of the faith don't need to be flashy or famous. That's good, because most of us aren't that way. As the Thessalonian Christians grew together as a church, they also grew together in their faith. Their lives reflected Christ and they became an example of the faith. They were able to "ring out" the word of the Lord everywhere. We can still hear their ringing 2,000 years later. Will someone hear your ringing today as you live as an example of the faith? CleanLiving Grace Sermon - March 6, 2011 | Getting ticked is a natural part of life. In fact, the Bible assumes we are going to get angry at others and gives ways of handling it. God's words of wisdom are for both 'hot heads' and 'slow boil' types of people. Talking with God when you are ticked, and handling conflict Christ's way, can help broaden your perspective of a difficult situation and create harmony in your relationships. Scripture passages: Psalm 4, Matthew 18:15 and Ephesians 4:26-27. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - February 27, 2011 | After Jesus miraculously fed over 5,000 people with fives loaves of bread and two dried fish, he sent the crowds away and went off by himself into the hills near the city of Bethsaida. He went off that night to pray. There is something special about taking a "time-out" to connect with God deliberately at night. In this podcast, you'll learn about the importance of bedtime prayer and how you can connect with God meaningfully tonight. From the Sermon Series "Tick Talk: Connect With God Today." CleanLiving Grace Sermon - February 6, 2011 | In Matthew 7:1-6, Jesus speaks some challenging words about judging others. He reminds us to 'look in the mirror' first when we want to judge or criticize someone else. If you find yourself wanting to criticize another person this week, stop, look in the mirror, and judge yourself first. You can also try asking yourself, "Do I deserve the same criticism I am dishing out about them?" Then lovingly forgive and help them while leaving the final judgement up to God. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - January 30, 2011 | When Peter asks Jesus how many times he should forgive someone who has wronged him, he hears some hard words from Jesus. Jesus says that he should forgive others without limit. Jesus then tells a story to illustrate God's forgiveness and his expectation of us to forgive others. "Forgive and forget" is what God expects of believers whose sins he has forgiven and forgotten. Teaching from Matthew Matthew 18:21-35. Sermon title: "The Power of 7s." CleanLiving Grace Sermon - January 23, 2011 | "Love your neighbors; hate your enemies." Sounds logical, right? But in Matthew 5:43-48, Jesus says some hard words about this kind of logic. Jesus says that God's love and blessings are free for all people, no matter how good or bad they are. Jesus then challenges us to show this same kind of love to others, even if they make us angry, irritate us, or even hate us. Are you ready to take up the prayer dare to pray for your enemies this week, and even help them as well? CleanLiving Grace Sermon - January 16, 2011 | Jesus says some hard words in Matthew 10:37-39. He's asking for total obedience. He says if you love people, even your family, more than me, you really aren't my follower. If you don't take up your cross, and nail your wants and desires and personal needs to the cross, then you really aren't my follower. If you try and focus on just saving your life, rather that serving God and others, then you really aren't my follower. What is God calling you to nail to the cross so you can then pick it up, carry it and follow him? CleanLiving Grace Sermon - January 09, 2011 | When Jesus teaches about adultery in Matthew 5:27-30, he takes the words of the 6th Commandment, "You shall not commit adultery," and drills down to their deeper meaning. Being unfaithful is not just something you do, unfaithfulness starts in the heart. Jesus warns us to guard against treating people as things or objects, but recognizing and respecting them as unique, loved, and valuable people. From the sermon series "Jesus Say What?" CleanLiving Grace Sermon - January 02, 2011 | One of the best ways of gaining a new skill is by learning that skill from someone else. It is also true with prayer. Jesus prayed himself and also taught people how and why to pray. In this sermon we learn from Jesus' teachings about prayer in Matthew 6:5-13 and see that prayers should be personal, simple, and about big and little things that are important to us. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - December 19, 2010 | Peace is one of those feelings we can have during the Christmas season. In the Bible, a man named Zechariah links the birth of Jesus with deep peace. Our Christmas peace comes from knowing and believing that God is real, has our best interests in mind, and is guiding, protecting, shaping, and forming us into people who reflect the love of Christ in the world. This week, take some time each day to stop and be at peace with God and yourself. Teaching from Luke 1:67-79. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - December 12, 2010 | If you feel Christmas stress, you're not alone. There are many things to stress out about this time of year: finances, family, too many holiday activities. During that first Christmastime, Joseph and King Herod experience some stress. Herod reacts and tries to protect his own interests. Joseph stops, waits for the Lord to guide him, and then acts in faith, even when that action will be a hard one for him and his family. Feeling a little stressed about your future? Perhaps God is calling you to learn from Joseph. Perhaps it's time to stop, wait, and then reflect on how God is moving and guiding your heart. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - December 5, 2010 | When wise men come from eastern lands and find Jesus, they worship him and they give him gifts fit for a king. Their generosity flows from their act worship. We might feel generous this Christmastime, but our generosity is more than a seasonal feeling, it is an attitude that flows out of our love for God and our worship of Jesus. As you shop for Christmas gifts and think about what to buy others this holiday season, let your generosity flow from your love for God and weekly worshiping of Jesus. Teaching from Matthew 2:1-11. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - November 28, 2010 | There are so many things to feel joyful about during the holidays. Parties, songs, and the excitement of children can fill us with joy. Mary, Jesus' mother, and her relative Elizabeth are filled with joy because of Mary's pregnancy. Mary's joy goes beyond her feelings but comes out of her spirit and soul. Yes, there is joy in this season, but the joy we have in us is not simply about a season, it is the joy that Jesus is with us. This is the joy we can feel at Christmas, and extend to others. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - November 21, 2010 | The Apostle Paul is very thankful for the Christians in the city of Philippi. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - November 14, 2010 | When things are good and life is going well, it's easy to be thankful. But when we face challenges, difficulties and hardships, our feelings of thankfulness can be replaced by worry, fear and anxiety. In Jeremiah 33, God promises the Israelites he will soon replace the destruction and death they are currently experiencing with joy and thanksgiving. We lift up our voices with the Israelites to sing our praise and thanksgiving to God in the good times, and the difficult ones as well. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - November 7, 2010 | When the Israelites bring tons of gold, silver, and precious stones for the building of the temple, King David is thankful to God for their generosity. He praises and worships God, and encourages everyone else to do the same. We believe that all that we are and all we have are gifts from God. This creates in us feelings and an attitude of thankfulness, and we respond to God in praise. Giving credit to God, is where our credit is due. Teaching from 1 Chronicles 29:10-20. CleanLiving Grace Sermon - October 31, 2010 | There is power in the spoken word. With our words we can make others feel angry, defensive, or discouraged. Our words also have the power to help others feel valued, secure, or inspired. The Apostle Peter knew the power of words because he had a habit of speaking whatever words came first to his mind. In 1 Peter 3:8-17, he challenges us to use our words in good and Godly ways rather than in selfish and hurtful ways.
