MOMocrats MOMochat: Run, Mama Run - May 23,2012 | When it comes to women in legislative office, the US ranks mind-bogglingly low: 90th in the world... and the election of 2010 was the first year when Congress LOST women in office. Is it any wonder so much anti-woman legislation has been voted into law this term? We need to bring more progressive, pro-choice women into office, on local and state levels as well as Federal. Groups like EMILYs List and Womens Campaign Fund are doing the hard work of identifying candidates, training and seeding their campaigns with funding -- but its not enough. Today, MOMocrats launches its 2012 version of Run, Mama Run: an online tool that will give users the ability to easily find and support women candidates all over the country. California Assembly candidate Torie Osborn joins Cynematic, Karoli and Donna Schwartz Mills. | 5/23/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: Bring Back Glass-Steagall - May 16,2012 | Experts say JPMorgan Chases $2 billion loss is likely the tip of the iceberg. If they were hedging this way, so are the other banks that are even bigger now than when they were "too big to fail" in 2008. Forget the Volcker Rule - we need to bring back Glass-Steagall to prevent these behemoths from gambling with FDIC-insured customer funds. With Karoli, Cynematic and Donna Schwartz Mills. | 5/16/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: Marriage Equality and Romnesia - May 11,2012 | The same night the President announced his evolution on marriage quality, we learned that his GOP rival was a prep school bully. But hes very, very sorry if his hurtful actions offended anyone. Karoli, Cynematic and Donna Schwartz Mills discuss this and other political news of the week. | 5/11/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: Showing REAL Teacher Appreciation - May 09,2012 | Its Teacher Appreciation Week, and parent volunteers at schools around the country are knocking themselves out to thank the professionals who educate our children. And while our teachers are pleased to receive Starbucks cards and be feted at school luncheons, nothing beats giving them the respect they deserve. Teaching in 2012 is a difficult job made more so by candidates and elected officials who score political points by criticizing public education, stripping teachers unions of their rights to negotiate and pushing for privatization schemes with an eye toward dismantling Americas public education system. National Education Association Vice President Lily Eskelsen is our guest this week. Lily, an elementary teacher from Utah, is one of the highest-ranking labor leaders in the country and one of its most influential Hispanic educators (shes an Obama appointee to the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, whose goal is to expand education opportunities and improve education outcomes for Hispanic students.) | 5/9/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: The Roberts Court "Parade of Horrors" - May 02,2012 | Legal expert and court watcher Jessica Pieklo joins Cynematic and Donna Schwartz Mills for a sobering discussion of last weeks hearing on the Arizona Immigration law (aka "Show Me Your Papers"), and the radically conservative bent of the judiciary system after eight years of Bush appointments and three years of Congressional obstruction. As Jessica says, its an "Ed Meese Revolution" -- and the product of a very specific strategy. Is it any surprise that ALEC is involved? | 5/2/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: The Etch-a-Sketch Has Shaken - Apr 25,2012 | Mitt Romneys victory speech after last nights primaries was a 14-minute image reboot, casting himself as the savior of the economy -- and not the hard-right, anti-woman, anti-middle class warrior hes been for the last 12 months. Cynematic and Donna Schwartz Mills paid hard attention to the primary campaign, and do not forget easily. Also: after Procter and Gambles withdrawal from ALEC, we turn our attention to that other major purveyor of home and personal care products, Johnson & Johnson... Mitch McConnells decision not to fight renewal of the Violence Against Womens Act... and Karoli calls in from Detroit, where she has been covering the protests at the annual shareholders meeting of General Electric. | 4/25/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: Words with ALEC - Apr 18,2012 | ALEC is the corporate-funded organization behind Floridas deadly kill-at-will law (and similar ones in 23 other states) that resulted in the tragic shooting death of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin. Yesterday, ALEC announced that it was suspending its task force on gun laws -- but it is still actively promoting policies that undermine the rights of average American citizens: bills that would repeal minimum wage and paid sick day laws, that would bust unions, privatize public land and gut public education, and more. ALSO: Tuesday was Equal Pay Day - which symbolizes the Wage Gap, demonstrating how far into 2012 women must work to earn what men earned in 2011. Republicans in Wisconsin have revoked their own Equal Pay laws, and one GOP Congressional candidate calls equal pay "a nuisance." MOMocrats Karoli, Cynematic and Donna Schwartz Mills will have something to say about that. | 4/18/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: Can Prop 13 Be Undone? - Apr 11,2012 | Some of the MOMocrats Southern California members spent Spring Break touring college campuses and returned home with severe sticker shock at current public university costs... the result of three decades of underfunded government services, thanks to the 1978 enactment of Proposition 13, which pioneered the tsunami of tax-cutting measures that have brought the country to its current fiscal crisis. Now, Governor Jerry Brown is once again facing this issue. He and education activists are seeking opposing ballot measures that aim to raise education dollars by raising taxes on the states wealthiest residents. Is California once again the harbinger of national policy? Cynematic, Karoli and Donna Schwartz Mills discuss. | 4/11/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: Supreme Court Hearing on Healthcare - Mar 28,2012 | The Justice Department presented its case yesterday for the health insurance mandate -- and the mainstream media reports that it did not go well. (In fact, CNNs Jeffrey Toobin called it a "train wreck.") Karoli has been live blogging the Supreme Court hearing, and offers her take on it with Cynematic and Donna Schwartz Mills. | 3/28/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: Slutaculous Super Tuesday Smackdown - Mar 07,2012 | 2012 is shaping up to be an extraordinary election year -- even more so than 2010 and 2008, which were also historic. Who ever would have thought that we would spend the week leading up to Super Tuesday discussing contraception -- and the rude discourse of Rush Limbaugh? OK, Rush has always manipulated the news cycle with outrageous proclamations, with uppity women a favorite target. But until now, his sponsors have seen that as a plus. Was this his Don Imus moment? And whats the difference between a prostitute and a Presidential candidate who flip flops whichever way the polls bounce? Join Cynematic, Karoli and Donna Schwartz Mills for our coverage of Super Tuesday and more. | 3/7/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: The Fox Effect on Rising Gas Prices - Feb 29,2012 | Why is everyone so up in arms over the very predictable rise in gasoline prices right now? Because - as Karoli pointed out on Crooks and Liars, Fox News has decided we have to be. She joins Donna and Cyn to talk about the Fox Effect and how it works, as mapped out in the new book by Media Matters David Brock and Ari Rabin-Havt. Well also debrief on the results of Tuesdays primaries in Arizona and Michigan, Olympia Snowes surprise announcement, and the march of anti-choice and anti-contraception bills in state and Federal legislatures. | 2/29/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: The Battle of the Budget - Feb 15,2012 | Never mind the the Middle East, where are military involvement is winding down (although covert actions between Israel and Iran may heat everything up again). Washington is the site of the nations biggest battlefield, emanating to statehouses across the country, schools, and churches. The culture wars ignited by Richard Nixon back in 1968 (with a lot of help from his trusty staffer Pat Buchanan) won the Republicans the South, and thanks to the current crop of right-wing extremists in office (with a lot of help from Nixons old media guy, Roger Ailes of Fox News), Weve spent a lot of time and energy over the last four weeks protecting not just a womans right of choice, but basic healthcare needs, like contraception. And now, we finally enter the "business as usual" phase: The Presidents 2013 budget, which aims to reduce the deficit over time (like the Tea Party wants), but also includes spending on things the country needs (like infrastructure and jobs) -- to be paid for by raising taxes on the 1%. Its going to be a bumpy ride. With Cynematic, Julie Pippert and Donna Schwartz Mills. | 2/15/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: The Komen Affair: Not Over Yet - Feb 08,2012 | Last weeks social media firestorm over Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundations split with Planned Parenthood shed light on the coordinated strategy the Right has used to nick away at reproductive freedom ( which also prevents Progressives from focusing our energy on other, equally important issues). Cynematic, Karoli and Donna will debrief on the SGKs PR debacle and its aftermath. The MOMocrats will also touch upon the latest developments in the GOP primary race, the Federal court ruling against Californias Proposition 8, and the batte to get around Californias Prop 13. | 2/8/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: Pre-Super Bowl Tailgate for Choice Ed. - Feb 01,2012 | Yes, Mitt Romney won Florida last night and well get to that. But more dismaying was news that the Susan G. Komen Foundation announced that they would no longer fund Planned Parenthood for cancer screenings, due to a flimsy new policy predicated on a flimsy Congressional investigation into the small number of abortions the organization provides as part of its entire range of health services. Planned Parenthood clinics are often the ONLY free or low-cost health provider for low-income families, and the Komen Foundations action will deprive thousands of women of screenings for cervical and breast cancer. This latest assault on Planned Parenthood comes amid the outcry at radical anti-abortion leader Randall Terrys successful ploy to force NBC to run graphic anti-abortion advertising during this years SuperBowl. Jessica PIeklo joins Karoli, Cynematic and Donna Schwartz Mills. Join the MOMocrats for their weekly discussion of the world of politics, from the progressive perspective. We also talk about "hidden" (more like, forgotten) provisions of the Affordable Care Act that are helping people NOW: medical loss ratio rules setting a floor of 80-85% of every patients dollar to be spent on health care as opposed to insurer "overhead," stopgap pre-existing condition coverage for those who didnt have insurance before exchanges come online in 2014 for us all, and insurance for young people under 26 if they can stay on their parents plans. | 12/7/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: The Case Against GMO Frankenfoods - Sep 21,2011 | Over the years, weve learned a lot about reading the labels on processed foods -- but what about whole foods that have been genetically engineered? Should we be concerned about produce that originated in a laboratory? Or the results of cross-pollination from a GMO crop into the food chain? These are some of the questions that are posed to this weeks special guest, dietitian Ashley Koff, author of the new book, Mom Energy, and one of the spokespeople for this months Right2Know March. Ashley talks in-depth about the dangers of GMO foods and what to do about it with MOMocrats Cynematic and Jaelithe Judy (who also writes extensively about food and politics at Care2.com). MOMocrats MOMochat: The Power of Choice - Aug 31,2011 | Cynematic, Donna Schwartz Mills and Jessica Pieklo welcome NARAL Pro-Choice America President Nancy Keenan to talk about about the Tea Party wave that purported to be about fiscal responsibility but turned out to be a mob focused on eliminating reproductive freedom for women. Keenan is a former Montana state legislator and superintendent of public instruction. In 2000, she was her districts Democratic candidate for the House of Representatives. As President of NARAL, she helped elect a new slate of pro-choice legislators in 2008. The last round of mid-term elections was a setback, but as the NARAL site points out, "In 2010, 31 NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC-endorsed congressional candidates won their races. Choice played a key role in the re-election of Sens. Michael Bennet of Colorado, Barbara Boxer of California, Patty Murray of Washington, and others." MOMocrats MOMochat: Not Yet Equal - Aug 24,2011 | In 1971, at the behest of New York Rep. Bella Abzug, Congress designated August 26 "Womens Equality Day." Forty years later, weve made some strides -- but as evidenced by the stalling of the Paycheck Fairness Act and the recent Wal-Mart ruling, we are still not equal. We still only make 77 cents to the dollar, make up just 17% of legislators in Congress and just 15.2% of the Fortune 500 corporate boards. And working women who are also mothers have additional hurdles to jump. Cynematic and Donna Schwartz Mills and Julie Pippert welcome Kristen Rowe-Finkbeiner, co-founder of MomsRising.org and author of The Motherhood Manifesto and The F-Word: Feminism in Jeopardy. | 8/24/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Cynematic will also recap her journey to last weeks Netroots Nation gathering in Minnesota. MOMocrats MOMochat - Jun 01,2011 | John Boehner, Mitch McConnell and the rest of the Republican congress are playing chicken on the debt ceiling... And MOMocrats Cynematic, Donna Schwartz Mills and Karoli talk with special guest Rachel Tabachnik about the multi-state drive for public school vouchers. Rachel is an independent writer-researcher who specializes in studying end times narratives and how they intersect or merge with anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, both historic and current. She works extensively with primary sources and has developed her own research library of media including prophecy books published over a span of more than a century. Her current work is centered on the changing eschatological narratives of Christian Zionists as the movements center shifts from the dispensationalism of American fundamentalism into the domain of the rapidly growing Pentecostal/Charismatic stream, particularly at the international level. This includes analysis of the recent explosive growth in prophecy literature from charismatic authors who have rejected the pessimism of the pre-Tribulation Rapture to embrace a more "victorious eschatology," an end time narrative in which believers play a more aggressive role in trying to move the hand of the prophetic clock. | 6/1/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMochat: Winning the War on Women - May 25,2011 | We had no doubt that the 112th Congress would be rough after the "shellacking" we received in the 2010 mid-term elections. But the furious pace of anti-woman legislation being enacted at all levels of government has been shocking, even to the most experienced political observers. EMILYS List President Stephanie Schriock will tell Donna, Cynematic and Julie Pippert how we can overcome those and make our voices heard. | 5/25/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMoChat - May 04,2011 | The President says that with the death of Osama bin Laden, the American people have come together as they did in the days after 9/11 -- and he has a point: when was the last time you heard Dick Cheney compliment Obama on a national security decision? The stunning operation in Abottabad has brought some feeling of closure to the country, possibly laying to rest the idea that Democratic leaders cant make the tough decisions ... but we know the bump in the Presidents poll numbers wont last; not as long as gas prices and unemployment remain high. (And the GOP has been pointedly crediting Bush administration policies like "enhanced interrogation" for the intelligence that ultimately led to finding bin Laden.) Well be taking your phone calls in the shows second hour. The MOMocrats will also be talking to Gina McCauley, the powerhouse blogger of What About Our Daughters, and Michelle Obama Watch, about this years upcoming Blogging While Brown conference. | 5/4/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMoCHAT - Apr 27,2011 | A "quiet" news week means theres been nothing to distract us from the sputtering economy. That means more birther talk, more legislative assaults on the rights of women and a movement to privatize public education. Plus gas prices are sky high (averaging $3.88 in the US). Whats a mother to do? Karoli, Cynematic and Donna Schwartz Mills have a few things to say about that. | 4/27/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMoCHAT - Apr 20,2011 | The week began withTax Day: Tea Party rallies were held by a loud minority who think the lowest tax rates in history are still too high... while there is evidence that a consensus is growing among the sane citizenry (you know, the ones who understand basic math) that the budget cannot be balanced without raising revenues back to Clinton-era tax structure. Our week ends with Earth Day. Forty-one years later, is our environment any safer? Donna Schwartz Mills and Cynematic host this week. | 4/20/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMoCHAT - Apr 06,2011 | Campaign 2012 has officially begun - Are You In? Donna Schwartz Mills, Cynematic and Jaelithe Judy talk about the official launch of the Presidents re-election campaign and the relative lack of enthusiasm from the liberal wing of the party... especially in light of the radical budget proposal revealed this week by GOP House Budget Committee Chair Paul Ryan, which would gut Medicare and Medicaid. Special guest Melissa Schober will be on hand to say a lot more. MOMocrat Melissa has worked in and around the Beltway for the past decade beginning her career with NARAL. Melissa has worked as a public health advocate. An apparent glutton for punishment, she lived through health care reform only to take a job working with a mid-Atlantic states Medicaid program. She is appearing on MOMocrats as an individual and the views she will be expressing are her own. A mom to an almost 3 year old, she is perpetually short on sleep. | 4/6/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

MOMocrats MOMoCHAT - Mar 30,2011 | On Monday night, President Obama told the nation of his conviction "that a failure to act in Libya would have carried a far greater price for America." And what a week it's been: Protest is in the air, from the Middle East on to Madison Wisconsin. A GOP majority voted in to create jobs instead seems to be using economic crisis as an excuse to bust unions. Worse is a return to the old culture wars, with a renewed focus on women's issues.
