| 9 | VideoSOC 302 The Science of Composing | Studies show close connections with science and music. But just how deep is the connection? State of Creativity follows seven scientists from the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation as they compose original pieces of music for a four-string quartette. Their efforts are part of a challenge to prove the connection between science and music. The catch? The scientists only have ten days to complete the compositions before a live concert. OMRF scientists, along with guidance from Native American composer Jerod Tate, take us on a journey to discover the creativity behind making an original piece of music come to life. Will the OMRF scientist hit the right note with their original compositions? | 9/7/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
| 10 | VideoSOC 205: Full Episode | Things break, from glass to people. Our world is full brokenness, but it’s also filled with people trying to use creative and innovate ways to rejuvenate the pieces. Oklahoma residents have an unfortunate #1 ranking: they have the highest risk of death from heart disease of any state in the country. But there is new hope for heart patients. Clinical trials are taking place for a revolutionary heart pump right here in Oklahoma at Integris Advanced Cardiac Care Center. A team of experts, headed up by director Dr. James Long, is working with a new device called the Levacor. It represents the newest generation of ventricular assist device (VAD) technology. And Chris McGahan, along with his son Micah, is finding creative ways to forge new life into old broken glass. At Bella Forte Studio, they are molding unique pieces with recycled glass, titled “Redento Raffinatos” meaning redeemed elegance in Italian. Tune into this month’s episode of State of Creativity to see how two stories of brokenness are fused into one story of redemption and a new lease on life. | 5/3/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
