Good, but look around before you buy...

This is a really good podcast but please look around before you buy into Dr. Mike's "opinions". This is his podcast and so it's his forum to give his opinion but as a parent who questions the norm I find myself cringing when Dr. Mike tells a listener to stop breastfeeding at 1 year, cold turkey, and put cow's milk in the bottle (Breastfeeding continues to be healthy beyond 1 year- see World Health Organization recommendations of 2 years). He is also a huge advocate of the harsh cry-it-out method and seems to wish that vaccines still had the mercury in them (see episode 94). For all the wonderful information Dr. Mike gives please keep in mind that our children are fragile little people and deserve our respect and comfort, and make sure to do your research before blindly agreeing with the doc on controversial issues. That said, this is a good listen and full of information that I DO find helpful. Happy listening and breastfeeding!

Too opinionated with religious conservative bias

I enjoyed listening in the early weeks but then I found Dr. Mike getting progressively more and more conservative right wing in his opinions and little comments he drops. I wasn't listening to this podcast for opinions but for sound medical advice. Not sure he can deliver that with his Focus on the Family bias (anti-gay, anti-diversity, pro-life, home schooling, spanking ((quote from Focus on the Family's founder James Dobson "It is not necessary to beat the child into submission; a little bit of pain goes a long way for a young child. However, the spanking should be of sufficient magnitude to cause the child to cry genuinely.")). The latest episode was the end for me. His wife Karen has now joined the show and a discussion on the swine flu turned into a discussion about Obama's right as president to get the flu shot and health care. (PS- Mike and Karen- it's a government OPTION not a take over... ) I find there are much better websites and podcasts for pediatric information. I've cancelled my subscription and urge others to do the same.

Far to one end of the spectrum

Dr. Mike seems like a very nice person, but his views are quite conservative. You may want to look around to find a more balanced, calibrated opinion on childrens' health issues.
