(Matthew 22:36-40 and Matthew 28:16-20) | Jesus calls us to be his disciples and sends us to disciple others, baptizing them, and teaching them to obey everything that he commanded. Being a disciple involves discipling others. | 9/6/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

In the Midst (John 7:53-8:11) | John 8 tells how Jesus responded when a woman caught in the act of adultery is brought before him. Jesus does much more than not condemn her. He stands in the midst of the angry crowd, willing to suffer alongside of her. And in so doing he gives her a new lease on life. | 8/30/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

In Our Father's Image (John 14:1-11) | Our image of our Heavenly Father is often shaped by our earthly fathers. Sometimes in good and constructive ways. Sometimes in bad and negative ways. A Faithful Father (Genesis 22:1-18) | The account of Abraham being asked to sacrifice his son Isaac is one of the most difficult, horrible, yet beautiful stories in the Bible. The Prodigal Father (Luke 15:11-32) | This parable has been called the Gospel within the Gospel. How we understand it likely says a lot about how we understand the Gospel. Open the Eyes of My Heart, Lord | We are called by God, we have been inherited by God, and we have been empowered by God to be the church, to be the body of Christ. And to do this the eyes of our heart must be enlightened. In the Bible the heart doesn't refer just to, or primarily to, our emotional center. And its not just the seat of intellect or understanding. Instead, the heart refers more to the very core of our being, the very essence of who we are. So this prayer that the eyes of our heart be enlightened or opened is a prayer that at our very core we might truly be enabled to see. | 5/4/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Living Rocks: Do Not Fear | Peter's readers faced tremendous suffering and persecution for their faith. Most of us never have. But we face something that may be an even greater danger: irrelevance. Two whole generations are missing from this church (and most churches for that matter): the buster (GenX) and the millenial (GenY) generations. Many of them see little or no relevance in church or the Christian faith. They see little or no difference in those who claim to be Christians. So should we be surprised that they aren't interested in Church? | 4/27/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Living Rocks: Proclaim the Mighty Acts | As living stones, as individuals and as a church, we are called to be rid of all forms of evil, malice, envy, hypocrisy, and slander; we are called to be nourished by God's Word as we are being built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices; and we are called to proclaim the mighty acts of our Savior. And we must do this because in and through Christ Jesus we are God' people. We have been chosen by God and we are precious in his sight. Living Rocks: Live for Righteousness | When we suffer unjustly we do right to remember that this world is not our home, that we are just passing through. We are aliens and exiles that are called to live for righteousness just as Jesus lived for righteousness. And when we do what is right and suffer, we are called not to take revenge or to just ignore the suffering we experience, but to patiently endure, trusting in God's sustaining power and the salvation that we have in Christ Jesus. | 4/13/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Living Rocks: Love One Another Deeply | We are living stones, living rocks, that are being built into a spiritual house. It is our love for God and our love for one another that is the mortar that should bind us together into what God is building here in Rockland and around the world. And, as we see elsewhere in Scripture, Jesus is both the capstone and the cornerstone, the one who shores us up from above and below, as He builds us, by the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit, into a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, that offers spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. | 4/6/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Jesus and the Dead Man | Jesus isn't a Messiah that would simply restore the nation of Israel and rule over it as an earthly king. Jesus isn't a Messiah that would simply purify the Temple worship of Israel. Jesus isn't simply a Messiah that would proclaim truth as a prophet. And Jesus isn't just a Messiah who would bring physical healing to the world. Jesus is so much more! Jesus and the Blind Man | Jesus was revealing the truth of who he is. Though Jesus was revealing that he wasn't the sort of Messiah many expected, he was definitely revealing that he was THE Messiah. And, even more importantly I think, he was revealing that he was not JUST the Messiah, but that he was God. While many were eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Messiah, few, if any, were expecting that the Messiah would be anything more than a great man. But Jesus wasn't claiming to be just an extraordinary man. Jesus was claiming to be the Son of God. | 3/2/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Jesus and the Samaritan Woman | Today we are going to listen in to what I believe is the single longest recorded conversation of Jesus and any individual. In some ways this is one of the most shocking conversations between Jesus and anyone that is recorded in the Bible. It is also, I think, one of the most beautiful. Through it, not only do we learn more about Jesus as Messiah, but we also are reminded of the importance of meaningful conversation and how conversation can lead to conversion. In fact, conversation may be one of the most powerful forms of witness and evangelism. Conversation can lead to conversion. | 2/24/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Jesus and the Pharisee | Yes, Jesus is making the point that Nicodemus is focusing on physical realities rather than spiritual realities, but I believe that Jesus is also saying something even more important about these spiritual realities. Jesus is saying that salvation is first and foremost about what God does. It is the kingdom of God that Jesus is revealing. Jesus' words and Jesus' miracles are meant to reveal the kingdom of God. And the kingdom of God that Jesus sought to reveal to Nicodemus and those of his day was much more than the physical kingdom of Israel or the Temple in Jerusalem. | 2/17/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Manifesting the Messiah Part 4 | In order to Manifest the Messiah, we must Listen to him. We need to sit at his feet and listen to him. Often this will happen while we are reading the Word of God. Manifesting the Messiah Part 2 | God has a mission for each of us. It is to Manifest the Messiah! We are each called to reveal that Jesus is the Messiah. This is a simple message, but it is a message that has changed the world. Yes, we need to write this message upon our hearts, but it is not a message that we are called to keep to ourselves. Manifesting the Messiah Part 1 | In the coming weeks we will look at other passages that describe events manifesting the Messiah and we will consider how we, as individuals and as a church, are to continue manifesting the Messiah to the world around us. In baptism we not only obey Jesus command to baptize, but we follow his lead in being baptized. In baptism we both hear and see a public proclamation that Jesus was the promised Messiah ... that Jesus is the savior of the world. Manifesting the Mystery | Last week I spoke about how Jesus' presence ... how Jesus' incarnation ... how God becoming flesh and blood ... how His presence ... how His living and suffering and dieing in our midst ... and how ultimately His resurrection ... revealed God to us and saves us. In a similar way, I believe that we are called to live out ... to incarnate, to flesh-out ... the Mystery of Christ. We ... as individuals and as a church ... are to Manifest the Mystery that in and through Christ Jesus alone we can reconciled to our Heavenly Father, that all ... on earth and in heaven ... might see the wisdom of God and come to glorify Him. | 1/6/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Gift of Presence | The greatest gift that God has given us is His presence. As I shared last week, God has sought to be present to us from the very beginning of time. He was present with Adam and Eve in the Garden. He was present with Israel in their captivity, in their exodus from captivity, and in the Promised Land. And God was present with us in the person ... in the flesh and blood ... of Jesus Christ. And lest we forget, God is present with us even now, through the presence of the Holy Spirit. God is a God of a presence. God is ever-present. And it is through His presence that we experience salvation. It is through His presence that we are saved. | 12/30/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

God With Us: Now and Forever | God with us. God has sought to be present with His people since the time of creation. In fact, God didn't create humanity so that He could be distant from it. On the contrary, God created humanity so that He could be present in the midst of it. Jesus' birth, life, death, and resurrection are the climax of the story of God's presence with his people. It is through the presence of God that we have been, are being, and will be saved. We are saved because God is with us, now and forever. | 12/23/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Live in the Now and Not Yet: Be Revealers of the Word | God wants us to be both in the Word and of the Word. We are called to be people of the Word. We need to be rooted in it and we need to be revealers of it. We need to internalize it and we need to externalize it. Live in the Now and Not Yet: Be Rooted in Scripture | How do we have hope and in whom do we have hope? We have hope in Christ Jesus. And we receive this hope by being rooted in the Word of God. We are to be rooted in Christ and in God's Word. God is a God of hope and will fill us with hope .. with all joy and peace in believing .. that we may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. God fills us with hope in Christ Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit. God fills us with hope that we might glorify God! God fills us with hope that we may TOGETHER ... with one voice ... glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the coming days, as we focus our thoughts on the birth of our savior, let us do so with eager anticipation of his soon return. May we live out our faith ... may we live out what we believe ... in tangible, meaningful ways as we hope for Christ's prompt return ... as we hope for the peace that only He can bring ... as we hope to again dwell in reconciled relationship with our Heavenly Father. | 12/2/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Others First | This morning I would like us to talk about another very important ingredient to unity: Humility. Humility isn't something that comes naturally to most of us. In fact, it is antithetical ... opposite ... to our human nature, in general, and our American culture, in particular. Humility, quite simply, is putting others first. It is putting God first and it is putting each other first. The opposite of humility is looking out for number one. The opposite of humility is my way or the highway. The opposite of humility is if you want something done right, do it yourself. And I could go on. It is not humiliation. It is not poor self esteem. It is not self-deprecation. It is a proper understanding of self; a healthy understanding of who we are in relationship to our Heavenly Father and to one another. | 11/25/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

And Be Thankful | As followers of Jesus, we are called to be thankful. In particular, we are called to be thankful to God. We are called to give thanks to God the Father through his son, Jesus Christ. While we have much to thank God for, I believe that one of God's greatest gifts to us is each other. We are a gift to one another. God has put us together. God has brought us to Rockland Community Church from so many different places, from so many different denominational backgrounds, and from so many different walks of life. In the midst of this diversity, we are called, I believe, to thank God for one another! | 11/18/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Do you trust Me? | You may recall that last week I said that trust is the basis for unity. Unless and until we truly trust God and truly trust one another, we will not experience unity. Think about it, Jesus told us that the two most important things we could do were to love God with all of our heart, and with all of our soul and with all our mind; and to love our neighbor as ourself. Can you do this, can we fully love God and one another without trust? Do we really trust God? | 11/11/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Unity | You see, unity begins with, and is sustained by, words like us,we, ours, theirs, yours and ends with words like me, myself, and I and my and mine. Unity is not cultivated by selfinterest. Unity is not watered by power, greed, or fear. We will not bear the fruit of unity unless and until we put the desires and interests of God and others far above our own. | 11/4/07 | Free | View In iTunes |

Yes, that is good news. It is very good news. But there is more to it than that. Much more! The good news declared by Jesus is that the Kingdom of God is near!
