The View from Down Here: May 22, 2012 | With there now being a two-horse race for the presidential campaign, President Barack Obama and challenger Mitt Romney have started what will be a lengthy battle of advertisements making the case for their nomination -- or against their opponent. Brendan and Gavin discuss the contrasting tones of the ad, and the continuing trend of President Obama's campaign to insert its collective foot in its mouth, as it did with this ad. Or you can click here to see the Romney ad, "Day One". The guys also talk about threats against a Catholic parish in Massachusetts over same-sex marriage and the controversy that keeps on going -- the contraceptive mandate as part of the president's health care package. No shortage of meaty stories in this week's issue. | 5/21/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Station XV: Episode 56 — Contraception, contradiction, conjugal relations and confusion | What is the New Zealand Government thinking in offering free long-term contraception to women on welfare? What is President Obama thinking in announcing he supports gay marriage in the middle of an election campaign? When will the euthanasia lobby stop pushing its barrow? And can something that has been blessed be un-blessed? Those stories and more on a full show this month on The 15th Station. | 5/18/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The View from Down Here: May 15, 2012 | One story -- and one story only -- seems to have dominated the US political and cultural scene over the past week, and that's President Barack Obama's announcement that his position on same-sex marriage has now evolved and he supports it. He said it was his Christian faith and adherence to the Golden Rule that guided his decision to move from a stated opposition to gay marriage to supporting it. Brendan, Tim and Gavin dedicate most of this week's show to the topic. Here's a link to the article Brendan mentions in the show: "What is Marriage?" | 5/14/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The View from Down Here: May 8, 2012 | With Newt Gingrich dropping out of the Republican presidential race, it's essentially become a head-to-head battle between President Barack Obama and presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney with six months to go until the general election. And it continues to be a rough period for President Obama, with a new campaign ad being widely criticised, ex-girlfriends revealing some of the secrets of their relationships with the future president and letters from Osama bin Laden being released. Brendan, Tim and Gavin chat about those stories, plus the other talking points of the past couple of weeks. | 5/7/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The View from Down Here: April 24, 2012 | Religion and politics collide on a fairly grand scale in this week's episode of The View from Down Here. Brendan and Gavin chat about the Illinois bishop who has strongly criticised President Obama -- only to see a secular group try to have the diocese's tax-exempt status revoked. The homily in question can be read or viewed here, so you can make up your own mind on whether Bishop Jenky crossed the line. We also talk about a same-sex marriage referendum in Washington state, voter ID laws and the Vatican's criticism of some wmen religious. We hope you enjoy the show. | 4/23/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The View from Down Here: April 17, 2012 | This week's episode is brought to you by the word "drop", as in Rick Santorum drops out of the Republican primary race, a Democratic strategist drops the ball in her party's alleged affinity with women, and President Obama's staff drop a large group of secret service agents for their indiscretions while supposedly protecting the president in Colombia. Oh, and a group of progressive Catholics try to drop the hammer on Republican up-and-comer Paul Ryan's budget proposal. Brendan, Tim and Gavin discuss those stories and more in The View from Down Here. | 4/17/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Station XV: Episode 55 — Faith revivals in New Zealand and Cuba? | A new study suggests many young New Zealanders might be becoming more religious while other peers are turning away from faith. Which will win out? The panel discusses that research and analyses the possible impact of Pope Benedict's trip to Cuba, as well as the semiannual controversial billboard from a prominent Anglican parish in Auckland. We'd love to hear from our listeners, so feel free to post comments with your feedback. | 4/14/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The View from Down Here: April 10, 2012 | In this week's episode, Brendan and Gavin talk about the big news of the past week -- President Obama's comments about the possible fate of his health care legislation as the Supreme Court rules on its constitutionality. What does it mean for the separation of powers in the US? What does it tell us about President Obama and his re-election bid? The guys also talk about the latest deal between the US and Afghanistan about night raids in the latter, the ongoing debate on religious freedom and give a quick Republican primary update. We hope you enjoy the show. | 4/9/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The View from Down Here: April 3, 2012 | It's just Brendan and Gavin again this week, and there's a long list of stories to cover. After a quick chat on the primaries and on Ron Paul and his curious inability to attract Catholic voters, we navigate through atheist waters, wonder about President Obama cosying up to Planned Parenthood and discuss this curious story of a woman who's in trouble with the law over her decision to baptise her children. And there's also some musical interlude from Catholic rapper Righteous B. | 4/2/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The View from Down Here: March 27, 2012 | With Tim "on assignment", Brendan and Gavin chat about some of the big stories of the week, including trouble brewing for President Obama's health care reforms, the latest primary results and what they mean, and two controversies -- a priest denying Communion to a lesbian and a university in New York that will hold classes on Good Friday and Yom Kippur. That, and much more. And, after the show, head to www.badlipreading.com for a political giggle. | 3/26/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Station XV: Episode 54 — Bishops, Billboards and Baptists | It's another intriguing episode of Station 15, as we explore the role of bishops in industrial disputes, Jesus' ability to heal diseases and the Pope's upcoming trip to Cuba, not to mention one of the most frivolous court cases you might ever hear about. Just another month in the life of The 15th Station. | 3/16/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The View from Down Here: March 6, 2012 | On the eve of Super Tuesday, the three self-proclaimed experts on American politics and culture break down the current state of play in the Republican primary contest as Mitt Romney looks to continue the momentum he gained in a series of victories from Michigan to Arizona to Washington last week. Will he be able to do so? Or will Rick Santorum bounce back? What about Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul? The panel also discusses the way Catholics have voted in the primaries thus far, Rick Santorum's criticism of JFK, a group declaring war on the US Government and a new movie assessing if America is broken and, if so, how to fix it. Just another week in The View from Down Here. | 3/5/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The View from Down Here: February 28, 2012 | In the second episode of The View from Down Here, Brendan, Tim and Gavin revisit the Republican primary contest and, in particular, look at Ron Paul, the congressman from Texas. Is he being ignored by the media? Does he have a chance to win the nomination? Can -- and should -- Catholic voters support him? We look at a pundit's view of that, and also deconstruct an opponent of Rick Santorum who tries to portray the former Pennsylvania senator as not a very good Catholic. Finally, we look at the way atheists are fighting for their rights to not be offended by such outrageous words as "Amen" and "prayer". | 2/27/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The View from Down Here: February 21, 2012 | In the newest show in the Station 15 stable, Brendan and Tim Malone, from Christchurch, NZ, speak with fellow New Zealander Gavin Abraham, now based in Australia, on some of the big stories in the United States that straddle the divide of Catholicism and politics. In this inaugural episode of The View from Down Here, the guys talk about the controversial Health and Human Services mandate on providing contraception and sterilisation free to women, as well as a first look at the Republican primary contest, as the GOP looks for the person to take on President Barack Obama in November's election. We'd love to get your thoughts on the show; please add your comments below. PS Apologies for the slightly dodgy sound quality; we've got some new equipment that will improve the quality for future episodes. | 2/20/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Station XV: Episode 53 — New legislation, new brothel (?) new partnership | The panel this month analyses the contentious provisions in President Obama's health care legislation requiring Catholic hospitals and institutions to provide health insurance covering contraception and sterilisation procedures*, efforts by Auckland businessmen to open a 15-storey brothel in the central city and the Pope's concerning admission that Christianity risks oblivion. But, in the good news of the month, Station 15/Icon Media has become an affiliate of the international Catholic podcasting network, SQPN. We're really excited to be part of the SQPN stable, an extension of the great relationship we've had with Father Roderick Vonhogen over the past three years or so. * This episode was recorded before President Obama's announcement of changes to the health care legislation in response to the bishops Church's concerns | 2/14/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

We also talk about the "head-hunting" of an Australian priest to be the new rector of the New Zealand diocesan seminary. For some additional reading, here's a link to a piece on former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. And for some additional listening, here's an ABC Radio interview with Msgr Peter Jeffrey. | 1/16/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Station XV: Episode 51 — Happy news, smiling Pope, Happy Christmas | In this month's episode of The 15th Station, the two-man panel of James and Gavin connects from each side of the Tasman Sea to discuss some of the big stories of the past month. The New Zealand bishops are in Rome for their ad limina visit, there's talk of a full diocesan seminary in Auckland and we reflect on what Catholic News Service has found to be the biggest stories of 2011. There's also time to chat about a complicated situation in New South Wales about admission protocols for a Catholic school in New South Wales, but we finish with a story that even brought a smile to the Pope's face. On behalf of the team that makes The 15th Station possible, we wish you all a Happy and Holy Christmas and best wishes for a great 2011 -- with more Station 15 podcasts as your New Year's Resolution. | 12/15/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

Engaging
This is an entertaining and informative podcast. I really enjoy it and since I live in the states I get to learn about Catholics in other countries. Thanks
The 15th Station
Great podcast- a group of young people from New Zealand discuss current events in relation to the Catholic faith-both on a global and personal level. They have a pleasant style (and great accents)! ;-) As an American, it is very interesting to hear perspectives from the "other side of the world" and they do a great job of illustrating both Catholic and general issues of life in New Zealand.
Check out "The View from Down Here."
"The View from Down Here" episoded discuss US politics and religon from the perspective of Aussies and Kiwis. It is interesting to hear how current events here in the US are viewed on the opposite side of the Earth. They've got their finger on the pulse and often have thought provoking views. I always look forward to the next show. A great podcast for us political junkies.
