Here we are at Book Report podcast number Ochenta y Ocho, with your hosts, Andy Hunsaker and Iann Robinson, with special guest Blair Marnell from The Idiot Box, because we really needed the full trio here to deal with the official revelation of the Before Watchmen prequel project over at DC. Are you Team Alan Moore or Team Dave Gibbons? Also on the docket for discussion are the apparent crossover with 616 Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man in the works, as well as the new Avengers and Amazing Spider-Man movie trailers and The Wolverine sequel release date in July of 2013. We don't neglect actual comic books, though - X-Club, Swamp Thing, Spider-Man, Lone Ranger, Batwing, Venom, Uncanny X-Force and more get the run-down. In a change from last week, this time, Iann's the one who's sick and sniffly. This week, we hit the news from the Avengers movie Twitter-fest (which was pretty much none), the latest on the X-Men: First Class sequel, some creative changes in DC's "Dark and Edge" comics, as well as Yays and Nays for Walking Dead, All-Star Western, Fantastic Four, Transformers, Secret Avengers, Justice League, American Vampire, I Vampire, Alpha Flight, Aquaman and more. The Book Report Podcast #86: Disease and Malaise | The Skype may be fuzzy and the host may be sniffly, but we welcome you anyway to The Book Report #86, Crave Online's comic book podcast with your hosts, the miserably diseased Andy Hunsaker, the monkey in the wrench Iann Robinson, and the Idiot in the Box Blair Marnell (who is not actually an idiot, it just sounded funny). This week's a short one, thanks to illness and some questionable Skype sonics (apologies for that), but Blair brings us news of the new Green Arrow series planned at the CW... or perhaps we should say simply Arrow. We also note some anti-spoilers for the Avengers movie, Dan Slott and Chris Yost writing all-ages titles tying into the Disney XD Marvel toons Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, respectively, and the return of a Mars Attacks! series at IDW from the writer of Chew. Then we've got yays and nays covering Amazing Spider-Man, Avenging Spider-Man, Lord of the Jungle, Voltron, Venom, Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman, Batman, Daredevil, Uncanny X-Men and more. Subscribe to us on iTunes and follow us on Twitter (@CraveBookReport) whenever you can. Welcome to The Book Report #85, Crave Online's comic book podcast action, with your hosts Andy Hunsaker and Iann Robinson. It's our first podcast of 2012, so we've got a lot to catch up on before the Mayans eat our livers or whatever. Here, we discuss DC's "New Wave" of the New 52, and the old wave that got cancelled because of it - not to mention Rob Liefeld's inexplicable windfall of good fortune, taking over three more old wave books after his got the axe. But the Justice Society is returning in Earth 2! Cause for rejoicing! Then, we blitz through a two-week backlog of Yays and Nays, such as The Lone Ranger #1 and The Goon #37, to get to this week's books, which include Green Lantern, Amazing Spider-Man, Batman and Robin, The Shade, Battle Scars, Resurrection Man, Batwoman, The Incredible Hulk, Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye, Batgirl, Black Panther, Scarlet Spider #1, Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E., Captain America, Lobster Johnson and the funniest Marvel book in ages, X-Club. The Book Report Podcast #84 - Best and Worst of 2011 | It's the end of 2011, which means its time for every jerk-off and jackhole with a website or a podcast to mouth off about what they think are the best and worst of the year. Since we're The Book Report Podcast, we might as well talk about comic books. For the most part, superhero comic books. Hey, they dominate the industry, but you can check out our Top Ten Indie Comics list for more outside-the-box thinking. We've got special guest Blair Marnell on board with Iann Robinson and Andy Hunsaker, running down the top dogs and the dirty dogs of the year in comics that was 2011. It was a big year with a lot of big happenings - particularly DC's New 52 initiative - so how will it all shake out? Who will win Best Ongoing Series, or Character of the Year, or Saddest Cancellation or Biggest Letdown? You'll have to listen to find out, but if you do, you'll hear talk about Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men: Schism, Thor, Cloak and Dagger, American Vampire, Transformers, Fear Itself, Flashpoint, Justice League, Batman, Penguin: Pain and Prejudice, Spider Island, Batwoman, Milk 8 Cheese, The Rocketeer, Future Foundation, Fables, Captain America, Bucky Barnes, Hawk and Dove, Batman: The Dark Knight, Detective Comics, Catwoman, Aquaman, Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Batwing and more. Fans of Dan Slott and Scott Snyder may want to listen. Because we love those guys as much as you do. Subscribe to us on iTunes and follow us on Twitter (@CraveBookReport) whenever you can. Also, be sure to check out Crave Online's other podcasts for all your entertainment needs - there's the "The Idiot Box" for TV, "The B-Movies" for film, "Next Gen News" for video games and "This is REALLY Happening" for comedy. Crave Online's got you covered. Happy New Year from my mother's basement! *Editor's Note: The editor is only in his mother's basement for the holidays, and will be returning home to California like a properly functioning adult and not a stereotypical comic nerd podcaster in a matter of days. | 12/29/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Book Report Podcast #83 - Mr. Dark Knight Risin’! | Happy Pre-Xmas, folks! Welcome to The Book Report Podcast #83, Crave Online's comic book podcast, with your hosts, Andy Hunsaker and Iann Robinson. This episode is dedicated to the late, great Joe Simon, co-creator of Captain America, who passed away last week. All The Dark Knight Rises hoopla exploded this week, and that's a big item up for bids on the podcast, as we dig into the official trailer for the third installment in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy as well as the crappy bootleg version of the footage we haven't seen clearly because we currently have no IMAX access. Another new development is the revelation of a new preview for DC Super-Friends, the new yet old-school animated series coming in 2012. We also tackle the week' comic releases, including The Walking Dead, Green Lantern, Orchid, Avengers: X-Sanction, Battle Scars, Batwoman, Batgirl, The Ray, Avengers Academy, Uncanny X-Force, Carnage USA, Black Panther, Resurrection Man and more. Subscribe to us on iTunes and follow us on Twitter (@CraveBookReport) whenever you can. The Book Report Podcast #82 - Defenders or Offenders? | Hey howdy, buckaroos! Welcome to The Book Report Podcast #82, featuring Crave Online Comics Editor Andy Hunsaker, TV Editor Blair Marnell and Monkey In The Wrench Iann Robinson. This time around, we're paying tribute to the late, great Jerry Robinson - the man who created the Joker - and talking about Marvel's big announcement of 2012's Avengers vs. X-Men event, as well as Brian Michael Bendis' declaring that he's leaving Avengers once it's done. Blair's also got some stuff to say about The Walking Dead TV show. We'll also run down this week's comics, natch, featuring Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Venom, Action Comics, Penguin: Pain and Prejudice, Batwing, Villains For Hire, Red Hulk, X-Club, Thor: The Deviants Saga, Voltron, Punisher, Avenging Spider-Man, Detective Comics and the premiere issue of Matt Fraction's The Defenders, which sets Iann off on a rant of epic proportions. Seriously, even if you liked it, it's a tour de force of nerd rage. Subscribe to us on iTunes and follow us on Twitter (@CraveBookReport) whenever you can. The Book Report Podcast #75 - Watchmen 2? Really? | Hey howdy, ladies and germs! Welcome to Episode #75 of The Book Report, Crave Online's comic book podcast, featuring your hosts Andy Hunsaker and Iann Robinson, and guest Blair Marnell, brought to you in the pristine sound quality that only a three-way Skype call can manage. Which means there's some weird sound burps here and there in this one, so be warned. This week, we address the surprisingly solid new rumors that DC is planning some prequel action to the sacrosanct, untouchable Watchmen series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbbons (of course, with no involvement from Moore), as well as the merciful ending of Fear Itself and the fact that we're getting 12 more issues of hammer schtick with The Fearless. We also delve into the talk of a new Punisher TV series that sounds a bit too much like Dexter, and more in-depth cackling at how bad that Wonder Woman pilot was. We're also talking Avengers, X-Men: Regenesis, Spider Island, The Shade, Justice League, Alpha Flight and more. Subscribe to us on iTunes and follow us on Twitter (@CraveBookReport) whenever you can. It's the last week of DC's New 52 extravaganza, so we've added a third person to the mix and added a third hour as a result! Jesus, what's wrong with us? We'll totally have this thing streamlined next week to something more reasonable, rest assured, but this week, it's like you're hanging out at your local comic shop and B.Sing with the usual gang of nerds! And look at that - we're trying to cuss a little less, too! Ain't we sweet? Anyway, Blair Marnell from The Idiot Box podcast joins Andy Hunsaker and Iann Robinson this week to cover the last week of the New 52. We also have the head-to-head we hinted at last week where Blair and Iann's vastly differing opinions on X-Men Schism get aired out. This week, we keep on keepin' on through all of DC's New 52 #1s, tackling head-on the obnoxious sexism involved in both Catwoman and Red Hood and The Outlaws, as well as touching on Deadman, Legion of Super-Heroes, Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, Green Lantern Corps, Birds of Prey, Supergirl, Batman, Nightwing and Wonder Woman. Then there's IDW's new Star Trek series, Marvel's X-Men: Schism which has caused a schism between Crave writers, Avengers: The Children's Crusade, Uncanny X-Men and X-Force and we even get regaled with a tale of,Iann's adventures in introducing Jaws to people in Africa with no concept of television. The Book Report - Episode #70 | Welcome to the 70th episode of The Book Report, Crave Online's comic book podcast, with your hosts, Andy Hunsaker (AKA Positive Polly) and Iann Robinson (aka Negative Nancy). This week, in a twist, Andy gets generally more bitchy than Iann, as DC's New 52 hits on a lot of his irrational pet peeves. Like Robin. We go through each of the New 52 issues that came out this week - namely Mr. Terrific, Batman and Robin, Batwoman, Frankenstein and the Agents of SHADE, Green Lantern, Red Lanterns, Deathstroke, Grifter, Resurrection Man, Suicide Squad, Superboy, Demon Knights and Legion Lost. Oh, and by the way, another installment of Fear Itself finally came out to continue to bore us, but Marvel put out some cool stuff, too, like Mystery Men and more Spider Island. Plus, we laugh at Twilight and Iann explains the meaning of "douche chills." Subscribe to us on iTunes and follow us on Twitter (@CraveBookReport) whenever you can. Needs an "Explicit" tag!
Was excited to give this show a try. The first show I try starts with a load of pointless strong profanity even though they didn't mark their show with the explicit tag. Sadly there are more of these kinds of podcasts available than not so there was nothing to keep me attached. No thanks.
Great Show
Aside from the fact that I got talked about on the show after winning the contest, I read Joey and Iann's stuff all the time, and they are great. As someone who does not have a local comic shop and does not have the money to buy all the books I would like to, it is nice to have somewhere to go to feel connected and up to date on everything that is going on in the comic book world. I think Iann needs to get over the fact that the comic world can no longer be relegated to the print pages it has been. I agree the broadway thing is a bad idea and I may hate U2 even more than Iann, but to say you want the movies to fail is wrong. Comic books and film where made for each other, and I think more and more the comic books will rely on movies to bring in readers. Yes I do not always agree with what DC and Marvel do with the terrible tie-ins and the kiddy down playing of the characters, but 300 and Dark Knight have shown you can be true to the characters and have quality films, and I think there is at least the distinct possibility, as more comic book writers take on scripts and other film jobs, the movies will become better and better. Definately give these guys a listen it is well worth it.
One of the Best
I've listened to every episode of this podcast & never plan on missing one. So many podcast just pander to Marvel & DC giving positive reviews. This podcast is different. If something is well written with nice art & well constructed characters then the host, Andy Hunsaker & Iann Robinson, will not only highlight that comic, but enthusiastically insist with colorful repertoire to spend your bucks on that title. If a comic is deemed garbage then the hosts let you know why its bad & to stir clear. The host know their stuff & with repeating guest host Blair Marnell adding his comic knowledge to the mix, this is one of the best podcast any comic fan can find.
