Customer Reviews

Mostly good

I really wanted to give 5 stars, because I love everything else Dan does, but I couldn't for one simple reason: I find Jason's dismissiveness of anything that isn't Ruby or MongoDB distasteful and extremely off-putting. We get it: Python is evil because whitespace is significant and Django isn't as hip and trendy as Rails. So don't use them, get over it, and shut up about it. Other than that though, good stuff all around.

Please, could you promote the awesomeness of Ruby a little more?

The content of this podcast is actually spot-on. For developers it has the potential to be a fun and quick way to get a review of web development tools and techniques one would be hard pressed to get anywhere else in such a quick and concise format. A couple of annoyances are tough to listen to:

(1) The only thing that could ruin talking incessantly about the awesomeness of Ruby and Rails would be the constant derogatory comments towards every other language. There are plenty of languages in the web world besides Ruby, but the hosts don't seem to think so. Enterprise Google App Engine developer using Python? Be prepared to get stomped on a lot. All content that doesn't involve Ruby is just kicked around. Many times the hosts will start to discuss an interesting topic, decide it's not written in Ruby and just move on to another topic.

(2) Lots of juvenile and starving-artist side comments for any product not specifically sponsoring the show. I get that the hosts are in the business to make money and not provide free props, but it gets old having to hear the 'shamey-shamey' put downs every time a non-sponsoring vendor is mentioned.

(3) Perhaps it's the schtick of the show, but it seems when these guys get together they have prepared about fifteen minutes before air time. Lots of 'Where are we?' and 'I dunno, you tell me' comments during air time.

Again, this show has a lot of potential, but the amateur-ness of it is tough to take. My opinion, though seems like there are plenty of satisfied listeners.

I really like this podcast

I originally wrote a very thoughtful and caring review, but I saved it in my MongoDB database and forgot to post my review before I rebooted my server, so it was lost, along with all my other data.
