Podcast Description
As Eady Associates continues to work with Black communities around the globe, it focuses heavily on economic and business development, which leads to the empowerment of Black people throughout the Diaspora. No matter what your cause, i.e. police brutality , your child’s education, health care, job opportunities, affordable housing development, etc. , Please see your cause as one that when properly defined is tied into the economic survival of Black people. Our survival, development and growth are dependent upon you and your agenda, and it must be seen with independence as its primary focus. Remember, all causes are a part of an economic thrust which when properly implemented will lead to the empowerment our people. Without vision and properly prioritizing and implementing our strategy, people in Africa and throughout the Diaspora will not have power, and without power, there will be no freedom. It is from this prospective that Eady Associates announces the Weekly Internet Radio Program, Titled “The Empowerment Hour Online University”. Tune in Saturday evening at 6PM EST and then call in at 1-646-716-7472 to participate in this conversation hosted by Kermit Eady, Founder & President of Eady Associates and Founder and Former President of the Black United Fund of New York. The Scott Sisters were sentenced by a Mississippi court in 1994 to double life terms in prison for an armed robbery they did not commit. Our guests for this discussion will be & Evelyn Rosco, Mother & Nancy Lockhart, legal analysis who has worked to free the Scott Sisters. Below is a excerpt from an article printed in The Black Commentary and edited by "NU Day" News Sept. 7, 2009 The Beginning of the End The parents of Jamie and Gladys Scott had felt that life for the family would be better in Mississippi than in Chicago. They had left the Chicago South Side and moved to Mississippi. Instead of finding a more peaceful, safe environment, they found a racist town where the white man’s spoken word is the law and justice for poor Black people, absent. On December 24, 1993, Scott County Sheriff’s Department arrested the sisters for armed robbery. In October of 1994, Jamie and Gladys Scott were sentenced to double life terms in prison. That’s double sentences each! Neither sister had prior convictions. Three young Black men confessed to the robbery, but implicated Jamie and Gladys in the crime. The three young men, all related and ranging from ages 14 to 18, confessed to committing the crime. Coercions, threats and promises later led these men to turn state’s evidence on the Scott Sisters.... We welcome everyone to tune in for this empowering episode to learn more about this tragic injustice and to learn what actions you can take to help free the Scott Sisters. The Attempted Closure of Mississippi's HBCU's Continued, this week on The Empowerment Hour Online Un - Jan 30,2010 | This week on the Empowerment Hour Kermit Eady and Earnest Mcbride, welcome Dr. Vernon Archer. Dr. Archer is currently working at University of Florida at Gainesville, but he was president of Jackson State University's Faculty Senate when Dr. Ronald Mason arrived in 1999. We will be discussing Dr. Archer's early experience with Dr. Mason, and the hints at closing down the state's black schools very early in his tenure there. A Brief Overview Gov. Haley Barbour has proposed to consolidate the three Black state universities (Mississippi Valley State U, Alcorn State U and Jackson State U) under one name and administration, i.e., Jackson State University. The Governor wants to do this because the state faces a shortfall of more than 7 percent in its anticipated revenue. The Governor has constitutional power to cutback all budgets by five (5) percent only. The half-billion-dollar Ayers Settlement of 2006 supposedly guaranteed Mississippi's Black universities parity with the white ones. Now, Barbour wants to scuttle that agreement with just a wave of his hand. Let’s continue the discussion this week on The Empowerment Hour | 1/30/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Empowerment Hour welcomes Dr King E Davis - Aug 25,2007 | Dr. King E. Davis (Black Fundraising in America) Many of you have heard me speak about this great African American. We met at Norfolk State University in 1977 when I joined the faculty as the Director of Admissions and Recruitment in the Graduate School of Social Work. Here Dr. Davis introduced me to the Black United Fund concept. In addition to being faculty, at that time, he was a guest editor in an edition of one of our great Black publications, The Black Scholar Magazine. This edition focused on The Black United movement, founded by the late Walter Bremond. More importantly however, Dr Davis did his doctoral dissertation at Brandeis University on the history of Black Fundraising in America. He is the foremost scholar in this area as this is the only authentic work that has ever been done on Black fundraising. It later became a book. "Fund raising in the Black Community." Also the Black United Fund of New York named a 41 unit housing development, The King Davis Houses. | 8/25/07 | Free | View In iTunes |
