Just what The Doctor (pick one) ordered. More than mere "Trek" talk, host Rick "Rico" Dostie delves into Sci-fi old and new. One week, you might hear a treatise on "The Empire Strikes Back", another week you'll get a character profile on James T. Kirk. The last episode I heard covered superhero cartoons. The format begins with news and reviews -- some of the latter provided by listeners. The show then moves on to the main topic. Toward the end, Rico spotlights a Sci-fi collectible or manufacturer. My personal favorites are the "Star Trek" episode commentaries, where the host walks us through an episode while revealing some little- or unknown backstage fact. I really enjoyed the episode commentary of "Assignment: Earth", which reminded me that it was recycled from a rejected series pilot script by Gene Roddenberry. There's a huge backlog of shows available that reach back to the first beta podcast. What is also noteworthy is the fact that Rico occasionally experiments with ways of enhancing the experience. One week, he underscored his commentary with photos in a fashion similar to a slideshow. This podcast also features a vibrant community of Sci-Fi enthusiasts who frequently (and creatively) contribute to the show, as well as keeping the forum flying at warp speed. No matter what part of the galaxy you or your mind inhabit, "Treks in Sci-fi" should be prescribed regularly.

Among the few GREAT Sci-Fi Podcasts available.

Rico’s show offers a different angle on the sci-fi you love. He is a fan of all Sci-fi and includes not only Star Trek topics in his podcast, but other Sci-fi shows like the new Battlestar Galactica. Treks in Sci-Fi covers classic Sci-fi movies: like Blade Runner, Logan’s Run, 2001 A Space Odyssey and Star Wars. There are no rivalries between the Star Trek and Star Wars genres here. I particularly enjoy Fan Focus segments, where the forum members are interviewed. Quite a few of them have interesting stories and perspectives. One in particular, a schoolteacher, won a walk on roll on Star Trek Enterprise. I highly recommend you start with that episode, if you just want a test drive. ArtRobot's comment about the "lack of research" should be dismissed since he didn't seem to listen to more than one episode...He really should follow his own advice and “do some research” before he leaves a comment. If you consider yourself a Sci-fi can (casual or hardcore), you'll love this podcast. I highly recommend it.

One Great Sci-Fi Podcasts

This is one of the few great Sci-Fi podcasts. It gets into not only just Star Trek, but many other shows and movies. Rico does a really good in depth look at every episode, and its just a fun time. He updates you on the latest news, collectables, and more. It is really good, and I hope it continues for a long time. Heck, I would pay for this podcast.
