Mountain Range | Twilight Frequencies Podcast 022 | Twilight Frequencies Podcast via iTunes Download Twilight Frequencies Podcast 022 | Mountain Range Mountain Range | Twilight Frequencies Podcast 022 by Twilight Frequencies on Mixcloud This month’s free music podcast is a short and lush mix composed of all original music from Mountain Range: Born from a love of Post Rock bands, endless mugs of tea, romanticizing Iceland and watching ‘Youtube’ videos of ‘Baths’. Shropshire born musician Stuart Thomas started writing music under the moniker of ‘Mountain Range’ in the summer of 2010. Blending washes of guitars and electronic beats, over the past year he has started to develop a small following in various pockets of the internet. Twilight Frequencies: Tell us about the podcast, what was your overall direction in making the mix? Mountain Range: I’ve never done this before, so to be honest, it was just a case of ordering the tracks in a way I thought flowed quite well, I’m just learning as I go really! As I write more stuff I can start to be more selective with various kinds of sets. TF: You’re original music has such a cerebral feel to it, almost a perfect score to so many different things. What do you believe is at the heart of the sounds coming from your material? MR: I started writing music that reflected things in my life that make me feel less uncomfortable/safer. I really got into Post Rock about two years ago, and that’s just stuck with me really, everything about the genre is so peaceful, it surrounds you as you listen to it, but it’s still got those aggressive parts, the dynamic really appeals to me. I’ve only just started to tap into writing that really slow, evolving quality of it and want to build on that. The electronic aspect gives it me that element of complete freedom, there are no constraints or rules, matching the two genres up is the goal! And I probably wouldn’t write anything if it wasn’t for Sigur Ros. TF: If you were to be contacted to do a soundtrack, what do you think that movie would look like? Who would be the ideal director for this film? MR: I love Wes Anderson, but I don’t think my stuff would work so well with him. The film would I hope be quite Happy, and quite slow, with lots of still cameras on things, like grass and trees. Shropshire basically. Something that could make you cry but in a good way. Like Wes Anderson films. TF: Other than Mountain Range, what else do you spend your creative energy with? Is there other work you’ve made that comes through similar to the music, i.e. photography or poetry? MR: I tried to teach myself photography last year with this old SLR I brought, but it really didn’t last very long, I want to pick it back up at some point for promo stuff, I use a friends photos at the moment that work really well. Other than that I used to draw a lot, but again, not very well, I’d like to tie things like that in. TF: If you were walking through the woods blindfolded, what would your mind imagine in front of you? MR: An armchair and mug of coffee. Boring I know. Worrying. Should I have said something more meaningful? A reassuring Deer then. TF: Pick a color that best fits your sound, and then pick one thing to go with it. MR: Dark Red. And a wooly knitted jumper. TF: Is there an album in the works? MR: I’d love to put out an EP, but I’d wouldn’t really be able to market it, and Soundcloud has the online side of stuff covered, so maybe when I get some more gigs going it’d be nice to have something people could take home. I’ll just continue writing and writing and see what people think, that might then become an EP. TF: What would be the coolest thing to happen with Mountain Range? MR: Every summer I spend hours watching festival coverage. I love festivals but never get to go to any, so playing at any festival really, at any time, to anyone. Thats my single aim of Mountain Range for the next ten plus years. Tracklisting | Twilight Frequencies Podcast 022 | Mountain [...] | 1/2/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Ratwo | Twilight Frequencies Podcast 019 | Twilight Frequencies Podcast via iTunes Download Twilight Frequencies Podcast 019 | Ratwo The Twilight Frequencies Podcast was created to help expose and promote fresh talent to the music community and this month’s free podcast couldn’t be a better example of that – being mixed by Ratwo, aka Andrei Radoi, a 17 year old producer/dj from Romania. We are also pleased that this is our first Dubstep/DnB podcast. Check out the short interview below and Ratwo’s social sites online while you listen. TF: Give us a summation on this podcast you’ve put together for us. Ratwo: In this mix I’ve tried to choose the best drum&bass and dubstep songs. Therefore, the hardest part was to choose the tracks. The mix is starting with some chill dubstep, then making its way into drum&bass and some hardcore dubstep, ending with one of my favorite songs. TF: Where do you reside? Ratwo: I live in Bucharest, Romania. TF: How long have you been DJing/producing? Ratwo: I’ve been producing for two years and as a DJ for only one year. TF: What styles are most predominant for you? Ratwo: As a DJ, I like mixing drum&bass and dubstep and I really like those songs with a dark feeling into them like 16bit and Distance. I also like machine-sound dubstep like Persist/Genetix. TF: What equipment did you use for this podcast? Ratwo: I’ve used Traktor PRO software and a Numark M2 mixer. For the final mp3 I’ve used Sony Vegas to maintain the volume. TF: Any projects you are currently working on? Ratwo: At the moment I’m working on my own songs, experimental stuff and also thinking of doing some short mash-up mixes. I’ll be uploading both my mixes and songs to soundcloud and my youtube channel. You can also follow Ratwo on twitter to see what he’s up to. 27B | Twilight_Frequencies Podcast 016 | Free subscription to the Twilight_Frequencies Podcast via iTunes Download Twilight Frequencies Podcast 016 | 27B A few short questions from this month’s free Twilight_Frequencies podcast artist, 27B. TF: Gimme your interpretation of the mix. 27B: “This mix starts off on a mellow tip and I had planned on keeping it that way, but by the end, I’ve entered the audio equivalent of a space war in a sci-fi film! It’s this type of thing that I love about mixing and listening to others mix … it’s a journey that can start off at one point, and take you in any direction it wants to, sometimes the DJ is at the steering wheel, at other times it seems to be the music leading him.” TF: Sounds interesting. How was it mixed? 27B: “I used Ableton and a Livid Ohm 64 controller to mix this, but I decided to give it a light touch as far as effects were concerned – I used a touch of beat-repeat and delays here and there, but I really wanted to let the tracks speak for themselves, so for the most part, I let the tracks do the talking.” TF: What projects are you working on currently? 27B: “I am currently co-promoting a pre-club night in Glasgow called Trench, which we plan to take it onto the club circuit later this year. I also recently began broadcasting a show called “Industry” on internet radio station subcity.org, which allows me the freedom to play what I want, so tune in to hear a selection of the finest in underground house and techno. I will also be releasing some tracks over the summer, catering for the darker, dirtier dancefloors of the world …” Track Listing: Artist Name, Track Name [Record Label] 1. 27B – Spark [Submoover] 2. Lovin It!
This is the music that revived techno for me. I took a break from djing and a majority of techno and dance music to explore other genres, which I'm glad I did. The tracks and artists on this mix and the year of 2009 brought it back and solidified its existence in my life. Can't wait to hear more and the other genres that will be explored.
Not bad!
I can tell these dudes are a bit new to all of this, just by the posting style, its a bit confusing to see whats what, but the music is great, and so are the DJs.
