UnderDiscussion 50: Groggy-nards on the Roll! | This is it people! The first UnderDiscussion episode for GenCon 2011! Hooligan and Eric J Carter join WDR and myself for the drive up to the con. You might hear us refer to each other by our actual names (of course, if you've been listening to Preferred Enemies, you should have already herd them anyway) during the ride up, that's because in the long tradition of Undergopher convention podcasting I'm not hitting these episodes very hard with the editing stick. This one clocks in at 30 minutes. This one is noisy and barely edited. Honestly, if you're going to skip one skip this one. This one clocks in at over thirteen minutes. I must apologize to our winner Chuck, I listed his site as "living geek life" where it's actually The Geek Life Project. One if his winning entries featured the Dungeon Master's Girlfriend. We end up mentioning This Just In... From GenCon, The Walking Eye, The Podgecast, the Brilliant Gameologists, and Fear the Boot at one point in the episode. UnderDiscussion 46: New Player Interview | Good news and bad news folks. Bad news is that, due to technical difficulties the first annual Wallies show is going to go up next week. Good news is that I do have an episode to put up today. Recently Freebird, Kaitlynn, and her father Pat sat down with WDR and I to talk about their experences with being new to roleplaying games (well, not Pat, he's an old hand like WDR). This episode clocks in just over 26 minutes. Also, I'm trying something new with the encoding on this one, let me know if you have any issues listening to it. Listen to the episode for details and send your entries to 8one6@undergopher.com. The first few minutes of this weeks episode are a little noisy and the whole thing clocks in at a little over 43 minutes. We recorded this one a few hours after episode 35 (there was another Gamma World actual play recorded in-between, but as I've mentioned in the past that is part of the strategic podcast reserve) and this episode clocks in at just over 38 minutes long. UnderDiscussion 39: Shameless Self Promotion Tour 2011 | For this week's bonus podcast Hooligan and Slacker join WDR and I in discussing the UnderDiscussion Shameless Self Promotion Tour we recently took where we visited the major gaming stores in the Kansas City metro area. We braved outrageous gas prices and the perils of an all you can eat Italian buffet to spread the good word about UnderDiscussion to some stores that had previously exceeded our usual gaming commute. We talk about how we feel that local stores are vital to the hobby. All and all I would say that we had a really good time on the trip, met a lot of friendly game store owners and most of us walked away with gaming stuff we had been looking for. This bonus episode clocks in at around seventeen minutes. Also, I would like to remind you that we are currently running a contest to give away an IronDie basic set of metal d6's. All you need to do to get an entry in the hat is like our facebook page (there's a convenient like button in the sidebar of the website, but if, for some reason you can't see it here's a link.) If you want to improve your odds all you need to do is get your friends to like the facebook page and mention that you were the one who referred them with the phrase "[your name] said I would gopher this." You still have until the end of April 29th for everyone to get signed up. In order of visitation we went to: The Basement - Games and Hobbies in the Zona Rosa shopping center. I took a few pics of some sweet converted Warhammer 40k orks there. 31st Century Games & Hobbies in Olathe, KS Tabletop Game and Hobby in Overland Park, Ks Big City Comics and Games in Kansas City, Mo (This is a correction from the podcast, Big City is on the Missouri side of State Line Road.) UnderDiscussion 38: Anniversary, 40k and Contest! | Ladies and gentleman, I am proud to present the UnderDiscussion One Year Anniversary episode! I want to thank you all for your support and for listening to us this past year. When I suggested to WDR that we should do a podcast he thought I was crazy and that no one would ever listen to us. It's a year later, we have 38 episodes released, we've have reviews and interviews and last month we had our first episode to go over a thousand unique downloads! So if we're crazy, then we're crazy like a fox! This week Nockergeek, Slacker, and Hooligan join us with new guests Hida Man and Dennis to discuss a bit about the tabletop wargame Warhammer 40k. We also announce our IronDie giveaway and a spinoff podcast! "What's that?" you say, "What are these 'IronDie' you are referring to?" IronDie are solid metal dice made in Italy and we're giving away a base set of the nine different shapes! What to learn the details? Then listen to this week's episode! The contest will run through April 29th 2011 (we plan to do the hat draw and the winner announcement recording on April 30th.) The winner will be announced on the May 2nd episode of UnderDiscussion. We are also announcing Preferred Enemies, a Warhammer 40k podcast hosted by the Undergopher's own Nockergeek, Slacker & Dennis! They recorded their first episode this week. UnderDiscussion 14: Gen Con Day 2! | I should warn you that we did almost no editing on this episode (for the sake of actually getting it up today and not a week from now) that it's not going to sound quite as sharp as our regular episodes, but on the plus side we're not recording beneath Reverend Dr. Ron's Salsa Dance Emporium, so it's sort of a wash. UnderDiscussion 6: Movies to Inspire Gaming | Ok, this is finally up. I have to apologize to everyone for not getting this bonus podcast up on Monday like every other one. My only excuse is that it’s a bonus podcast and that I haven’t really missed a scheduled podcast release date yet (so that’s not so much an excuse as it is a denial of wrong doing.) This week’s podcast (and by week I mean weekend obviously. We’ll have a new one up on Monday as scheduled!) is all about the movies that inspire our gaming. Underdiscussion Episode Three | Episode 3: Intro to roleplaying The third episode of Underdiscussion features our first guest, Hooligan, and an introduction to the basics of roleplaying. I took a lighter touch with the editing on this one, so it shouldn't sound like the audio equivalent or a ransom note. Let us know what you think or if you have any other questions you would like us to answer in the comments below. EDIT May 29 2011: I have removed Episodes 1 and 2 from the RSS feed. They sound awful and I don't want that to be someone's first exposure to the podcast. They still exist so if you really want to hear them you can find them. Here's the link to our iTunes feed. A solid start!
Listening to the first episode of this podcast, my interest is definitely piqued. It's great to have two hosts who are equally passionate and have similar opinions, but who bring very different backgrounds to the table. You also have a really good grasp of the tabletop gaming hobby, which will just make the discussion all that more intelligent. I look forward to listening in the future!
Go for the Gophers
Hosts that know what they're talking about. Discussions that aren't padded with "awesomes" and "cools", but instead detailed explanations. Guests who sound like they've been around for numerous episodes. Oh, and there's witty banter, too. If you're inclined to live on the nerdier side of life, you need to do yourself a favor and click that little subscribe button up there and get to know 8one6 and WDR. Trust me, your podcast listening habits will undergo a shift as the Undergophers rise to the top of your "Must Listen To" list.
Can't Wait for the next episode!
These guys are off to a great start. I can't wait for the next episode.
