One leg out of the fantasy world - take another step, Pip!

Another winner from Pip Ballantine, one of the treasures of the podcast literature world for her excellent writing, superb voice acting, and her generous contributions of her voice skills and promotional efforts to other podcasters. Pip has [re]created a grim and gritty historical New Zealand so real you feel like you are in the middle of the action. Weather Child had all the makings of a wonderful story even without the fantasy elements. The characters are distinct, complex, and well developed. Action scenes raise your heartbeat and increase your calorie burn. We can feel the darkness and heartlessness of the villain long before we know and understand anything else about him. All takes place in a well-executed recreation of a world that stays real even though it is remote (timewise and, for most of us, distance-wise). I was especially impressed by the immersive setting and the well-written action scenes in Weather Child. Although I thoroughly enjoyed Chasing the Bard, it was a far less immersive listening experience, because I found the land of the Fey quite uninteresting and The Between was so abstract and fantastical that it was devoid of emotional connections for me. Weather Child kept me in the story - on the fire escape, on the train, in the basement cells, next to the burning building, and even in a WWI trench. Well done, and thank you, Pip.

Great Story!

I always enjoy listening to Philippa Ballantine's work. She pulls the listener in right from the start with interesting story lines & well developed characters. If you are a fan of magical fantasy or just enjoy a good story; give this podcast a listen.

OY OY OY Pippa Does it Again

Ya, I know it's supposed to be Aussie, but big time kudos...OY OY OY...to Phillipppa Ballantine for another extremely well written and performed story. From Chasing the Bard to this current novel, Pipa has gone from good to better to best. This novel, even though set in a time before mine (and most other listener's) gave me a basis and point to find sympathy/empathy for her characters. I must admit though I found her previous stories greatly engaging, I found it often difficulot to sympathyse with the characters. Not so this story!!! At times I had to go back and re-listen to previous chapters/epiodes, by the end of the story I was on the same page and feeling it with every one of her characters. Thank you Ms. Ballantine for this extremely entertaining novel. Thank you for all your past endeavours. And I, for one, hope you will keep giving us your works on podcasts and Podiobooks for many years to come.
