Growing in Grace & Knowledge | Knowledge and truth have fallen on hard times in contemporary American culture. We are distracted from thinking deeply about anything because we are too busy focusing on ourselves and our own entertainment. Sadly, this problem is not merely "out there," in the world. Overnight, contemporary churches have become entertainment centers and purveyors of self-centered spirituality. Encouraged by smiling television preachers to have our best life now, modern Christians have almost lost sight of Jesus and his saving work. We desperately need to follow the advice of the Apostle Peter, who encouraged believers to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Pet 3:18). R.C. Sproul joins the panel for this special edition of the White Horse Inn recorded before a live audience in Orlando, Florida. | 5/26/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Worship Experience | The worship wars are over, and most protestant churches now feature a praise band or worship team. In the quest for relevance, today's churches offer worship experiences that are in tune with the expectations that parishioners receive from contemporary pop-culture. However, some are beginning to recognize that this pop-music worship style lacks a certain transcendence, and in their quest to find a sense of the sacred, many are abandoning evangelicalism and are heading to Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy. So is this new appreciation for gregorian chants and swinging incense a healthy reaction? What is worship, anyway? That's what's on tap on this edition of the White Horse Inn. | 5/19/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Reforming Youth Ministry (Part 2) | What's wrong with contemporary approaches to youth ministry? In order to address this question, last week Michael Horton began a discussion of this issue with Brian Cosby, author of Giving up Gimmicks: Reclaiming Youth Ministry from an Entertainment Culture, and on this program we're presenting the conclusion of that discussion. Reforming Youth Ministry (Part 1) | Something is wrong youth ministry today. Visit the youth program of a typical evangelical church and you're likely to witness a lot of fun and entertaining activities, yet most Christian teens remain biblically and theologically ignorant, and statistics show that the majority of them will abandon church after high school. On this program, Michael Horton discusses these problems with special guest Brian Cosby, author of Giving up Gimmicks: Reclaiming Youth Ministry From an Entertainment Culture. | 5/4/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Scandalous Grace | Will God allow murderers to get off scott free? If so, what does it say about God himself? How can he do this kind of thing and still remain holy? Scripture actually condemns those who justify the wicked (Prov 17:15, Isa 5:23), so how in the world can we be justified? Only by recognizing the radical lostness of the human condition does the scandal of grace come into full focus. Recorded before a live audience at the Liberate Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, the hosts with the help of special guest Tullian Tchividjian interact with the logic of Romans chapters 1-4 and unpack the scandal of grace. | 4/28/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Narrow Gate | When Jesus tells his disciples that "the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life," is he teaching a kind of salvation by works? And when he says, "Not everyone who says to me Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom," is he saying that we need to add good works to our confession in order to qualify for heaven? On this edition of the White Horse Inn recorded during our recent listener cruise, the hosts discuss these issues as they conclude their series through Christ's Sermon on the Mount. | 4/21/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Judging, Seeking, Knocking | How are we to interpret the words of Jesus when he says, "Judge not lest you be judged"? Are we to make no judgments at all? Or what about "Seek and you will find?" Doesn't Paul say that "no one seeks God?" (Rom 3:11). On this edition of the White Horse Inn recorded before a live audience during our recent listener cruise, the hosts discuss Matthew 7:1-12 as they begin to wrap up there survey of the Sermon on the Mount. | 4/14/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Why does Jesus begin his prayer with these theological issues, rather than with our own practical concerns? True & False Piety | In Matthew 6, Jesus warns his followers about various forms of "showy" righteousness: "Beware of practicing your righteousness before others in order to be seen by them." Elsewhere, Jesus criticized the Pharisees for similar reasons, saying that outwardly they were like beautiful decorated tombs, yet inwardly were full of dead bones (Matt. 23:27). On this program, the hosts discuss this section of the Sermon on the Mount and evaluate some of the ways in which contemporary Christians are guilty of breaking this command. | 3/10/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Doctrine, Doxology, and Duty!
The White Horse Inn radio show has helped me immensely in my spiritual growth. They bring the riches of Reformed Theology to bear on the issues of today, and they stand as a clarion call to the broader evangelical church to return to the historic roots of the Reformation.
I have learned so much from just listening to these four gentlemen discuss theology and its practical implications. They each display a deep love of God, a great love of the principles of the Reformation, and a deep desire to see Christ proclaimed!
If you want to feel good or get your daily/weekly dose of schmaltz, then listen to Joel Osteen or Joyce Meyer. But if you're willing to exercise your mind and think deep about the things of God, then listen to the White Horse Inn and watch your appreciation of Jesus grow!
Thinking about the Reformation?
If you are sick of only hearing from your pastor/life-coach "How to do such and such," then you must listen to the White Horse Inn. These guys make it clear that the central message of all of scripture is Jesus Christ (Luke 24:27). The Christian message isn't simply: "How to do this or that" or "shape up!" The Gospel is that Christ fulfilled the Law on the behalf of guilty sinners.
If you are interested in the basic teachings of the reformation, look no further than the White Horse Inn. These gents not only explain Christ from all the scriptures, but also explain how scripture has been understood throughout the history of the church. The WHI makes the Law and Gospel clear, which is the most liberating news a sinner can hear. Don't pass it by!
The Cult of Reformation?
One of the things that has to strike anyone as curious about WHI listeners is that they have never met an episode that wasn't the best ever-- as evidenced by the lack of credible reviews with less than 5 stars.
There's no question: the Reformation was a critical and necessary moment in the history of the Christian faith, and the four 'usual suspects' who host WHI (guided by Prof. Mike Horton) represent their view of this event and it's systematics thoroughly. But are they entirely fair or consistent? Do they cause people to love their local church more in order to nurse it's flaws (and be honest about their own foibles), or do they produce accolytes who, frankly, become effectively-churchless people in search of a perfect place which has never existed since Christ?
Horton & Co need to find a way to see that the reformation did not end with the writing of the WCF, and that they have much to learn about the necessary consequences of the Gospel from people who have a lower aptitude for systematic theology.
More to the point, their listeners need to see these guys as a starting point, not the end of all theological introspection. I would find the whole effort more credible if it produced a spectrum of fans who rate the show positively (3,4,5) rather than a homogenous bloc who all give it a 5+.
