Tabetha Hedrick - May 22,2012 | New designer Tabetha Hedrick joins me to talk about how she got started knitting, designing and her new booklet The Crescendo Collection. Tabetha’s designs are classic, with distinctly lovely silhouettes, beautiful stitch arrangements, and well written patterns. Flattering the figure, while remaining comfortably in fashion, is one of her highest goals when creating new pieces. In addition to knitting, you’ll find Tabetha spinning yarn, sketching ideas, teaching knitting, and all while raising two young & magnificent daughters. She lives by the belief that joy comes when fully participating in the present moment. Adding a dose of design in the fiber realm takes that joy to pure bliss. Serendipity Yarn and Gifts - Apr 17,2012 | Today we talk to the owners of Serendipity Yarn and Gifts in Buena Vista, CO about owning a yarn shop and the wonderful things they have planned! Its amazing how a group of knitters gathering at someones house and doing what they love to do could one day become an inspiration for what is now "Serendipity Yarn & Gifts". Serendipity first opened its doors in April and we are now going on our seventh year in business. As you enter the store you are greeted by an array of gift items that include: jewelry, soaps and lotions, candles, picture frame/home decor, table linens, purses, scarves, and of course, yarns galore...both downstairs and upstairs. On one wall a description of "Serendipity" is painted with the words - "a gift or talent for accidentally finding the perfect solution or making a happy discovery". Many women from all over the country have discovered "Serendipity" in their travels ... and the local women have found Serendipity to be a gathering place of friends, all with differing talents, but a common love of creating. If you act upon what you "love", success is the reward. Like this podcast? Be sure to leave a comment/review on iTunes to let others know about it. Seamless Crochet: Kristin Omdahl - Feb 07,2012 | Kristin Omdahl debuts her revolutionary, one-of-kind seamless motif joining crochet technique in one superb bundle that includes the Seamless Crochet eBook and techniques video. Kristins brand-new modular construction allows one motif to flow into the next, creating secure joins and beautiful geometric patterning on the exterior round. Custom Knits 2: Wendy Bernard - Jan 31,2012 | In Custom Knits 2, Wendy Bernard picks up where she left off in the bestselling Custom Knits (published by STC Craft), empowering knitters to delve even further into customization. Each chapter begins with a tutorial on the featured topic—such as converting patterns to fit men, women, or children, or tricks and techniques for substituting yarn, gauge, and stitch patterns—and is followed by a selection of Bernard’s fashionable designs on which to try them. The patterns can be knit as-written or customized; specific prompts for customization are included throughout. Custom Knits 2 concludes with formulas for making garments without a pattern, using only body measurements as a guide—a graduation of sorts for adventurous knitters. Like this podcast? From their home base of Seattle, Washington, Jason and Shannon Mullett-Bowlsby run a successful business that includes everything from gardening and cooking classes to fashion design and publishing. “We’re just a couple of regular guys… if we can do it, so can you!” This is the mantra of the Shibaguyz that carries through all of their classes. Within moments of introduction we began to laugh and have not stopped laughing together since. Ive been a fan girl of Fiesta Yarns ever since I first held their yarn in my hands 5 years ago. The lushious colors and awesome base yarns are uncomparable to any other company on the market. The La Boheme and Gracie DK are two of my personal favorites. So, I asked the fantastic Jeannie to join me on the show to talk about how her and Brad got started in the fiber industry and to tell us more about this wonderful yarn. XRX-Stitches-Knitter's Magazine CEO: Benjamin Levisay - Mar 31,2011 | Where to begin: seven years ago, after learning how to knit one of the first magazines I ever picked up was Knitter's Magazine. Since then it has been one of my favorite mags. When I discovered that the publishers of Knitter's were also the publishers of some of my 'best of the best' list of books as well...I became an even bigger fan of XRX inc. So, imagine my surprise (and giddiness) when two years ago I was sitting next to the CEO of XRX in a shuttle bus from LAX on our way to TNNA. We had a wonderful conversation and I knew he had to join me for a podcast interview. When I asked him if he would be interested in joining me for a Yarn Thing episode and he said "Absolutely". Yes, it has been two years since that fateful car ride but my relationship with XRX has done nothing but grow. I had the opportunity to go to my first STITCHES EXPO last month and I have to tell you it was EVERYTHING it has been advertised as. As a knitter and crocheter I am here to tell you that if you have a chance to go to any of the STITCHES around the country you MUST go! From the fashion show to the classes offered to the show room floor there is nothing lacking! It is simply amazing. (FYI: I will be in Atlanta next month so stop by to say hi at the Bijou Basin Ranch booth) It was after STITCHES West that we decided it was time to finally do that podcast episode we talked about so long ago. So without further wait, please join me as I talk to Benjamin Levisay about all things XRX! | 3/31/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

CASTING OFF: Nicole Dickson - Mar 24,2010 | CASTING OFF by Nicole Dickson, a breathtaking debut novel about love, loss, and forgiveness. On a tiny island off the west coast of Ireland, the fishermen’s handmade sweaters tell a story. Each one is unique; feelings are stitched into rows and memories are built into patterns. Rebecca Moray comes to the fishing village to research a book on Irish knitting. With her daughter in tow, she hopes to lose herself in the history of the island and to forget her own haunting past. Before long, the villagers’ kindness wraps Rebecca and Rowan in a world of friendship, laughter, and love. With the exception of Sean Morahan. A cantankerous old fisherman, Sean tries to scare off Rebecca. As she eventually gains his friendship, she recognizes the storm behind his angry eyes—as she’s weathered her own. In the space of a summer, these two troubled souls, who have stood on different sides of abuse, learn to release each other from their prison of regrets and begin to heal and forgive. | 3/23/10 | Free | View In iTunes |

Toe Up: Chrissy Gardiner - Mar 17,2010 | Gardiner Yarn Works is the creative outlet for former software architect and company founder Chrissy Gardiner. After learning to knit from her grandmother at age 10, Chrissy dabbled in the fiber arts (including knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch and needlepoint) for years before discovering her local yarn shop and the lovely luxury yarns therein. Knitting became her new obsession after her kids were born, she left the corporate world for good and, thanks to her LYS, discovered that wool is not always scratchy. Chrissy's designs can be found in many past issues of Interweave Knits as well as various pattern compilation books, knitting pattern websites, sock clubs and yarn company pattern lines (click here for a more detailed listing of her designs published by others). She published her first book, Toe-Up! Patterns and Worksheets to Whip Your Sock Knitting Into Shape, in the summer of 2009. She is a wholesale member of The National Needlearts Association and is Membership Services Chair for The Association of Knitwear Designers. She keeps her skills sharp and gets feedback from all sorts of knitters while teaching at various shops around the country. Chrissy lives with her husband, Bill, and their two children in a Craftsman-style bungalow in urban Portland, Oregon. She also tends to a small menagerie including three cats, two rabbits (Bella and Cocoa Puff, the official Gardiner Yarn Works office bunnies) and three chickens. Her biggest challenge these days, besides making sure her printer doesn't run out of ink, is keeping her children from running around the house with her working yarn. | 3/16/10 | Free | View In iTunes |
