CleanThat Song: “Never Forget” Studio Pre-Release | Here is the last unmastered pre-release song from the upcoming studio album, "Never Forget." After this post you will be downloading the entire collection in high resolution! How exciting! "That Song" was technically the first song I wrote entirely both the lyrics and music for. The song was performed by Electric Daydream (Matt Sampson, Mike Rankin, Matt Guité/Jordan Warsky, and Steve Westfall) and Liquid Daydream (Matt Sampson, Mike Rankin, Chris Muccino, Simon Marcus, and Steve Westfall) as well and in recent history—in and around Pennsylvania—with Matt Daskivich (bass and vocals) who added his own special touch to the song. "That Song" was aptly named because it never had a name, and was more often than not referred to as that song, the one that goes like that...dun......dun..dun...I guess it just stuck. Originally written about a horrible break-up I had at the time (Gee big surprise), it later just became a anthem for being "left alone" so to speak, or simply an "I told you so" song. I hope you enjoy the new fresh production. One person in the studio commented when they heard it, "Whoa, that was epic," to which I replied, "Yeah, ok, epic...thanks!" Special thanks to StudioZeo studios and Zeo Bas for all his hard work and excellent production of all the songs, without his help, encouragement, and keen ear, this album would not be happening. CleanNew Waters: “Never Forget” Studio Pre-Release | Another unmastered pre-release song from the upcoming studio album, "Never Forget". Originally "New Waters" was co-written with Matt Sampson and performed by Electric Daydream (Matt Sampson, Mike Rankin, Matt Guité/Jordan Warsky, and Steve Westfall) and then Liquid Daydream (Matt Sampson, Mike Rankin, Chris Muccino, Simon Marcus, and Steve Westfall) as well—in the very early days. The concept behind the song was "starting again" after a "romance-gone-real-bad-break-up"—basically a second chance at dipping your feet in the water. Special thanks to StudioZeo studios and Zeo for all his hard work and excellent production of all the songs, without his help, encouragement, and keen ear, this album would not be happening. CleanA Little Time: “Never Forget” Studio Pre-Release | A second unmastered pre-release from the upcoming studio album, "Never Forget". Co-written with Matt Sampson, "A Little Time" was often performed by Electric Daydream (Matt Sampson, Mike Rankin, Matt Guité/Jordan Warsky, and Steve Westfall) in the days of our studio space on the top floor of Rundlett Block above Treats on Main Street. Special thanks to StudioZeo studios and Zeo for all his hard work and excellent production of all the songs, without his help, encouragement, and keen ear, this album would not be happening. CleanLeaving For Paris: “Never Forget” Studio Pre-Release | Finally a studio release from the upcoming new album, "Never Forget". This version is unmastered but is a good representation of what to expect on the rest of the recordings in terms of instrumentation. I could say I have been working on this album for 20 years, but in reality it has only been about 4 months this time, however it seems like that long and some of the songs are 20 years old. "Leaving For Paris" is a song written many years ago for a very close childhood friend--and at the time fellow line-chef at Le Garage Restaurant--who was leaving for France for a semester during college. Needless to say I knew I would miss her very much. "Leaving For Paris" was originally co-written with Matt Sampson and performed by Liquid Daydream. Even back then it was a favorite of some, but through the years it has seen many changes and refinements resulting in what you hear today. The addition of the Fender Rhodes is a tribute to Kenny Sampson who occasionally would play with us for fun during the "Fifty-Federal Days" in Wiscasset, Maine. This pre-release was chosen in part for Greg Daskivich who has asked many times why it was never officially recorded. Enjoy! Special thanks to StudioZeo studios and Zeo for all his hard work and excellent production of all the songs, without his help, encouragement, and keen ear, this album would not be happening. CleanSongcast #3: Old Friend | Sparked by an upcoming visit from Tom, Old Friend (2007) was written just for the occasion when I was living in La Crescenta. However the song is for Jeremy as well and anyone else I have not seen in years, afterall, we have all shared "stories in the Burg." (Gettysburg, Williamsburg, Chambersburg, Some-other-burg etc) The song was played out once or twice in Los Angeles at Whipserz Lounge and then shuffled away into the bottomless song binder. I am still utilizing a whole step down on my guitar tuning due to the fact I am finding it easier to sing. CleanSongcast #2: Freedom | I have decided to dive into the past for awhile. Freedom (1993) is the first and only 'politically' motivated song I have ever written. I am unsure as to what inspired me to write it, however, I do recall being partly motivated by an "expired parking meter violation" that I found on the windshield of my tan 4-door 1979 VW Rabbit. Over the years Freedom has been underplayed even though sometimes requested. Since I have been experimenting with alternate tunings, playing a whole step down seem to work well here. I kept the same arrangement but the pre-chorus and the chorus are sung a bit differently. Enjoy! CleanSongcast #1: Clear Mind | Clear Mind is a song written some years ago (sometime around 1993) but was rarely, if ever, played. I did make a recording of it once with a hand held tape recorder on White’s Island in Wiscasset, Maine. (For those who know about White’s Island, I probably do not have to tell you what I was doing out there...however...for those who do not, well, let’s just say at that time it was a place for youth to participate in “recreational activites”...) It was a terrible recording and an unfinished song. In the spirit of trying something new, I rewrote the music in open "D" and changed the original arrangement. I have to thank Elias James who helped me record and encouraged me take after take of bad vocals--Thanks Elias.
