BRILLIANT WINTER ALBUM!

I read about this album on Sting's website and immediately felt that I should get it. Many people don't seem to understand this album and questions Sting's way of singing and playing old traditional music. But I think that it is the variation that makes a big artist. On this album Sting shows his big interest in the Winter season and the different aspects of winter in different carols and lullabies. To me that is brilliant and shows Stings musical flexibility. I admit that I first thought that the songs on this album would be new songs written by Sting, but now it doesn't matter to me. At least you get two original songs, and it's enough to satisfy me. So people, don't judge Sting to hard. He's just exploring different kinds of music and not just his roots in rock 'n roll or popular music. Remember that.

Different, but good

As indicated by an earlier reviewer, this Christmas CD is a bit different from the Sting we're used to from Englishman in New York and Ten Summoner's Tales. If you've heard his John Dowland album, you probably know a bit more what to expect. (I have only heard a little of that album, but I've heard very varied opinions of it, ranging from awful to great.)

But A Winter's Night is still worth listening to. After the initial bewilderment settled (this wasn't how I expected it to sound) I find that I do like this music too.

There should be warning stickers (Listen first!) on the album cover, I was stupid enough to just download the album without listening. Sting remains a wonderfully gifted human being and musician but I can not understand he was able and allowed to release such an unbelievably weird album. I am sure there are people who will like this besides Sting himself but it is just so different from earlier work. Had it been someone else's first album it would have never seen the light of day. I should have seen (hear) it coming with his previous album but had hoped that was just a one time mistake. This can not be the Sting that has touched millions of people's lives.
