Album Review

As their swan song Kyuss left the hard rock community with a densely recorded album of their trademark sound. It's just unfortunate they didn't try to experiment more as they did on their previous works, Sky Valley and Blues For The Red Sun. Instead they relied on similar formats. Luckily the production and performances are top notch and the layers of sound create a wall of distortion that even outdoes the band's own catalogue. And unlike those past records ...And the Circus Left Town has a number of tracks that are catchy and almost seem formatted for the radio, "One Inch Man" and "El Rodeo." They just don't impress after two other landmark albums.

Circus Freak!

Words cannot describe this Masterpiece - equal in my opinion to Sky Valley. KYUSS left town and left us wanting more...alas....this was the band's last album. This is one of those disks that you just press play and snap one through - and you are ready for a heavy trip. Phototropic is a blended and layered psychotropic like nothing I have ever heard. Spaceship Landing picks up where Sky Valley left off with THICK riffs - I say it's the heaviest song ever. These guys were so far ahead of everyone else that they got lost on their way out of the desert. Now their disks are like buried bones in the sand. Quite a find for those lucky enough to dig 'em up. But I don't know about the CLEAN LYRICS.

One of their best

I find it hard to describe Kyuss which is partly why I like them so much. If you're a fan of bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Alice in Chains, and Tool, odds are you'll find something to like. Their music is fast, hard, and raw and this is definitely one of their best albums. This one and Welcome to Sky Valley are my two favorites.

Finally!!

I love that first song "Hurricane" It goes well with NFS MW, Carbon, and even high stakes, and you're speeding at 200+ mph and ramming things as well. I love the guitar in that song. Get it NOW!!!

Biography

Formed: 1990 in Palm Desert, CA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s

Hailing from Palm Desert, CA, Kyuss (pronounced "kai-uss") has become something like a heavy metal equivalent to the Velvet Underground. Although they are widely acknowledged as pioneers of the booming stoner rock scene of the 1990s, the band enjoyed little commercial success during their brief existence, but their combination of sludgy, down-tuned guitars (often played through a bass amp for maximum, earth-shaking intensity), spacey jams, galloping...
