A Great Musical, but missing da Silva
I'm so glad this musical is finally on itunes, but I do wish the movie soundtrack (if it exists) would come out too, Howard Da Silva's Franklin is much missed and it is so hard to imagine any other voice saying his amazing dialogue.
Wonderful musical, but not the best recording
1776 is and will always be one of my favorite musicals; however, this recording is actually inferior in quality to the movie's soundtrack; due to illness, the original and undisputably best Benjamin Franklin - Howard da Silva - is replaced with his understudy, Rex Franklin.
The chemistry between John Adams, Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson is hampered by the loss of one of the trio, which sadly renders some of the best songs in the show painful to hear - most notably "The Egg".
By and large, this is still a passable album, but to anyone who has heard the movie soundtrack, it simply cannot stand up on its own.
Yea Franklin was better old
The other Franklin was better. However it is still a good album and it's better than having no 1776.
