Album Review

1982-1992 is a 17-track compilation that contains all of Europe's greatest hits ("The Final Countdown," "Carrie," "Rock the Night," "Cherokee," "Superstitious"), plus several album tracks and a pair of rarities, the single edit of "Prisoners in Paradise" and the acoustic version of "I'll Cry for You." While this is certainly the way to go for most fans — only diehards need the original studio albums, which are rather spotty — it may be a bit too much for some casual fans, since much of the material not released as singles simply isn't as strong or catchy as the hits. [This compilation was reissued in 2000 with the updated title 1982-2000 and an added track, "The Final Countdown 2000."]

Oh Yeah

This is truly Europe's Greatest Hits

Get the whole album

"The Final Countdown" is one of the best songs ever written, certainly one of the best songs of the 80's. Everybody knows it. but trust me, this band has more to offer than just that one awesome song. If you just download that one song or a few other songs, you will not be able to get "Cherokee" from this album, since you can only get it if you download the whole thing. I personally enjoy every song on this album, including "Cherokee," so I would recommend downloading the whole shebang. It's a great deal, too, 17 great songs for only $7.92. I would go as far to say that this band is right up there with Bon Jovi. They're that good.

Great

These are all great songs. I love every single one, even though 82-92 was pretty much Europe's whole career. I find it amusing that the I-tunes biography says this band is death metal/black metal. I don't find any anti christ lyrics in here. Great songs, almost great band, but that's high praise from me.

Originally a progressive rock group, Europe didn't achieve any success until they reworked their sound into a bombastic yet melodic pop-metal. In their first incarnation, the Swedish band was called Force. The band — featuring core members Joey Tempest (vocals), John Norum (guitar), and John Leven (bass) — won a national talent contest in the early '80s, which led to a record contract. After changing their name to Europe and releasing two albums in Sweden (Europe and Wings of Tomorrow),...
