iTunes Review

A four-man group from New York, Natural Elements seemed to be destined for big things. Coming up during the mid-‘90s indie-rap heyday, they dropped several key 12-inches, appeared on all the good mixtapes, were featured on the Stretch & Bobbito show, and performed regularly around the city. Then they scored a deal with Tommy Boy, and everything fell apart. Comprised of A Butta, L Swift, and Mr. Voodoo, with Charlemagne on the beats, they recorded what was to be their debut album in 1999, only to break up and see the music shelved for a decade. Like other recently released "lost albums," (from KMD, Scientifik, and Charisma, among others), it's great music that still sounds fresh, but it's also a shame that it took so long to see the light of day. Natural Elements’ quintessentially New York rhymes are a well-balanced blend of grimy, intricate, and witty, while the production fuses head-knocking drums with dusty samples and heavy basslines. All of their big singles are included here, as well as several more obscure bangers. Check out "Bust Mine," "Second Hand Smoke," and "Livin It Up Pt. 2."

Sick Album, but where's Mayday?

After hearing the Black Mask soundtrack, Natural Elements song "Live it Up," sparked my interest in the group. I was left wondering when an album would come out. One EP, then several singles and now many years later a collection of 20 tracks. Verdict, it did not disappoint. Only beef, it would've been nice if they had included Charlamagne's name on the cover. Nevertheless, one of my favorite albums released this year. Check it out, great rhymes & ill beats…Support Good Music!
