Album Review
The Best of Jennifer Holliday: The Millennium Collection gathers highlights from the Tony Award-winning singer/actress, including "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" and "I Am Changing" from the original cast album of Dreamgirls, the musical that made her a star. "This Game of Love," "Just Let Me Wait," "No Frills Love," and "New at It" are some of the other standout tracks from this compilation, which isn't quite as comprehensive as Geffen's The Best of Jennifer Holliday but is nevertheless a concise, enjoyable overview of some of her definitive moments.

Extraordinary Gift
If I hear one more person talk about that atrocious little girl Bianca I'm gonna scream. She is 11 and should not be singing this type of music for one and also she was flat on almost every high note she hit when she sang. It is obvious with all the trash on radio today America has lost its sense of what good singing is. Someone comes along on a tv show and screams there way through a song, and I'm not just talking about Bianca, and we praise it because we don't hear singers anymore and it's really sad. Jennifer Holliday, Whitney Houston and others like them are a significant moment in music and cultural history. It showed a sophistication and love of beauty in our society and now that's all gone. Replaced by skinny women breathing into miccrophones while being touched by a rapper. So i'm sorry, but Bianca needs to grow up a little and mature before she decides to ruin her obviously blossoming gift by tackeling a song that even the most mature and trained voices struggle with and it's sad to see none of the adults in her life have any regard for that, they are all about the money.
Her Greatest Moments
This entry into Universal Records 20th Century Millennium Collection presents 12 of Jennifer's greatest recordings for the Geffen label. During her active recording career Jennifer recorded four albums for Geffen, one album for Arista, one gospel album for an independant label and as of late contributed her voice for a soundtrack album and had recorded singles for clubs. This collection displays not only her big ballads but her versatility as an artist by tackling dance and gospel, her Arista cd she takes on a jazz fusion song "Love Stories." Jennifer is referred to by a lot of "American Idol" contestants because her version of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" is not only the first version and not to slight Jennifer Hudson, it's the definitive reading. "I Am Love" is a wonderful ballad and I remember when it was all over the radio, there was nothing like it at the time and it remains one of my favorite songs. Unfortunately Geffen didn't know how to market Jennifer, they tried to make her a dance diva with her final Geffen album which tanked and her recording contract wasn't renewed. She is missed and we'd love another studio album but in the meantime, this collection even though it doesn't have any tracks from her Arista cd "I'm On Your Side," is a great collection.
Jennifer Holliday is the standard by which all are judged
She originated the song "And I'm telling you I'm not going" on Broadway in Dreamgirls. She sings it with the ultimate conviction and heartfelt pain. I can't imagine anyone every surpassing her rendition of the song. While Bianca Ryan is indeed talented, she is obviously copying the style in which Ms. Holliday sings, a style which is her signature. If you have seen Jennifer Holliday perform this song live, then you have seen it at it's best and know that the originator is and always will be the best at vocalizing this song.
