Album Review

Every track here except "Reflections" achieved number one pop status. If "Love Is Here and Now You're Gone" had been included, and "Reflections" omitted, the whole CD would be composed of number one pop hits. The omission of "The Happening" (ugh), also a number one hit, was a good one. These 11 songs represent the Supremes', and writers/producers Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, and Eddie Holland's, best work. Especially endearing are "Where Did Our Love Go," "Come See About Me," "You Can't Hurry Love," "Love Child," and "Someday We'll Be Together," a Johnny Bristol, Jackie Beavers and Harvey Fuqua composition originally recorded by Johnny & Jackie.

The Songs That Defined Them

by RASchuette

If you're only looking for the singles that defined The Supremes, this collection has them all. That other album mentioned -- "24 #1s" -- is misleading. 8 of those are from Diana Ross' solo career while 1 is simply a remix of You Keep Me Hangin' On. That leaves 4 other songs by the trio, none of which anyone other than an afficianado would name as a necessity in a Supremes collection. Simply put, you can't go wrong here for the price.

As a solo artist, Diana Ross is one of the most successful female singers of the rock era. If you factor in her work as the lead singer of the Supremes in the 1960s, she may be the most successful. With her friends Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard, and Barbara Martin, Ross formed the Primettes vocal quartet...
