Album Review

As part of MCA's 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection, the 12-track Best of Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs disc highlights the group's best-known material originally released on MGM in the mid-'60s. Besides the obvious hit singles "Wooly Bully" and "Lil' Red Riding Hood," the real highlights are the timeless "Ring Dang Doo," "(I'm in With) The Out Crowd," "Oh That's Good, No That's Bad," and "Ju Ju Hand." This is fun stuff with more groove and a slight edginess that, criminally, Sam the Sham was never given proper credit for.

Although Wooly Bully (and the following song) might alone be willingly purchased for even half the album's price, this oldie album is a real "pick-me-up" - a talisman, of sorts ... What would you rather have - an emo trio moaning minor, accidental tones of suicide, or the red-coated silly entertainer(s) above?? Of course, any depressing music (e.g.) ALSO has meaning and purpose, but if one would splurge for this Sam the Sham compilation, that would be a good buy, etc... Anyways, enough senseless babble... nobody's gonna bring down these "gaywads" ... :)

Wooly Bully is awesome!

That's probably the only one I like, but whoever called them gaywads IS a gaywad.
