A Breath of Fresh Air

This album breathes new life into experimental jazz! Buy this. you wants this.....

Amazing!

Experimental in the very best sense of the word! Impeccable playing and fascinating rhythmic permutations. Conjured memories of Zappa among others, but highly unique.

Different, welcome, a bit limited.

I have enjoyed this album a lot. It is certainly not what you're used to getting in a typical artist compilation. Machacek has very interesting chops on more instruments than electric guitar. Steve Vai resonates in 16th and 32nd note permutations that create the "tales'" melodies. Minnememan, as expected, has interesting and diverse drum chops for Machacek to lay his chops over.
A fault to this album is the synonymity of the tracks. They sound unique but nonetheless jumbled by the cacophony which they are composed of.
It makes the album sort of a guitar player's album, in that it is mostly interesting when you can appreciate his unique soloing techniques with accurate spacing and crazy good squeals.
I like this album a lot but it REALLY makes me yearn for a recording in which Alex Machacek develops some tight grooves and develops some deep solos/harmonies. Perhaps a live trio setting is in order.
