Customer Reviews
Stunning
If anyone's seen this film, then you know the feeling captured throughout this movie in "25th Hour". Terrence Blanchard completely mesmerizes with a jazzy/classical composition which is beautiful even if listened to without having seen the movie. It's very relaxing and completely satisfying. If you have not done so, I strongly recommend you seeing this movie as its performances are engaging. Wonderful CD to an absolutely wonderful movie!
Other music from the 25th hour?
Although I enjoyed Terence Blanchard's score for 25th Hour, I wish the soundtrack had the other music from the movie, like when they are at the club.
Music as movie atmosphere
Though Blanchard's soundtracks can be pedantic, this one is not. There's no doubt he loves Spike Lee's movies as much as we do, and this score perfectly compliments the movie. Each section rises with an omniscience that supposes the emotion of each scene. ‘Playground’ is, by far, the most dreamy and beautiful of these – how can we forget the gorgeous Rosario Dawson as she seduces our hero, Ed Norton, into a love affair by rocking gently on a playground tire swing while Blanchard’s sexy-smoky piano fairly breaks our hearts. ‘Doyle’s Walk’ comprises the major refrain used throughout the movie and wonderfully evokes the idea of a New York City that is working sadly, dutifully, to dig out of the rubble. Not unlike our hero. Indeed, this is the first major motion picture to be released post 9-11. If you were as crazy as I was about the club music, purchase Cymande – the song you want is called ‘Bra.’ I can’t imagine how I missed them in the 70’s. Yes, movie music manipulates us – thankfully Spike and Blanchard have contrived a winning combination here.
