This Is The Missing Song...
For those of you wanting the song that plays when Jim is wandering around London: it's "East Hastings" by godspeed you! black emperor, from their album "f#a#infinity". Of course the rest of the soundtrack album is fantastic!
Stellar atmospheric release, but missing at least one song
I had purchased this album based on my love for one song in the sequence of the film where Jim is wandering around a vacant London downtown. This song, however, is featured nowhere on the soundtrack album...which is amusing as it is the longest piece of music in the film, and it is used several times throughout. However, this one complaint aside, the album is one of the most intellegent and intracately crafted pieces of music I have heard in years, soundtrack or otherwise. Had I never seen the film and heard this, I would have easily mistaken this release for a stand-alone ambient electronica album and not a soundtrack. Some of the threads used can wind up being somewhat redundant, however when pieces of songs overlap and are re-used, they are approached in a different fashion and it is amazing how John Murphy can take a simple guitar line and make you feel three very different emotions by re-arranging the accompaniment. A sure-fire hit for anyone who enjoys thick, atmospheric and emotionally charged music. -J.L.D
28 Days Later- Not just another horror film
To start with, I really enjoyed watching the film...5 times, at least! It was so much more than just another "scary movie." It actually touched on some political and scientific issues. I love that isolated mood of the film, and the music really intensifies the emotional aspects of the movie. My personal favorite is AVE MARIA, (Taxi). I think that the juxtaposition of really beautiful and pure music with a gruesome scene is just plain genius and just further emphasizes the sad undertones. This song is sheer brilliance and it sounds like a song that would be played in a historical cathedral or church. I also love that song that was played when they were going through the supermarket (AM180) and I like 'IN PARIDISUM" which is a remake of the original classical song. I would have given this album 6 stars, if it was possible of course.
