Most boring story ever on TAL
One reason I like This American Life is that most of the time the stories have some twist to them. Nothing is what they seem to be. This particular one is not one of those stories. Expect to hear about irresponsible college kids getting drunk and do stupid things and that's what you get, nothing more.
I actually found it pretty amusing!
Perhaps people writing these negative reviews are people who can't get in touch with their inner college persona.. or never went.
A TAL classic
I always love the sheer comprehensiveness of This American Life, when Ira & Company really sink their teeth into a story and show it from all sides. This one, focusing on the drinking culture at Penn State, is both hilarious and, literally, sobering: the high times, financial dependence and lethal and professional consequences that come with being a top party school. I was captivated by the entire hour and recommended it to friends.
