The Bro Must Go On

In order to properly experience 3-D Music, you must unlearn what you have learned. You must unearth what you have earthed, and you must understand what you have derstanded. This isn’t the Con Bro Chill you thought you knew. This is a band of fully-grown men, baking up a sound that critic Adam Long has hailed—perhaps prematurely—as the second coming of sliced bread.

Con, SAMM, Steve, and Ty are the band, reunited for the first time since doing “Lady Marmalade” on the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. They bring with them the invention of music in three dimensions, an achievement so profound that it must either be the ultimate truth or utterly fictional. Either way, 3-D Music is a masterpiece, a dissertation in gaiety that explores what Con Bro Chill is and by extension what we all are.

Creatively, this is the culmination of everything CBC. The message is essentially the same (Party responsibly.), but this time around the music is big and hairy. You can almost taste the Schweppes and tears that went into each track, because they’re all triple-titanium smash hits. Every song on the album is its own catchy anthem that will plant in your head-case, grow roots into your limbs, and make you dance.

Con has cited early Raffi as a major influence on this album, and it’s evident in several tracks (“Born Free America”), with the rhymes and international flavor hearkening back to the great singer-songwriter. Even so, CBC has a provocative edge that sets their work apart and makes it their own. The standout single is undoubtedly “Power Happy,” a motivational tour de force. This song is jet fuel in your ears, except instead of a toxic infection you will be intoxicated with positive energy and a can-do attitude that mothers adore. In my house, “Power Happy” has replaced milk as the #1 essential part of a balanced breakfast.

Being 3-D, the music comes at you from every direction and hits you with every emotion. Listeners will find themselves faced, in order, with excitement, suspense, awe, rage, exhaustion, shame, confusion, ecstasy, grief, pride, regret, joy, and finally, world-weariness. A few of the tracks are older CBC classics except they have now been remastered using 3-D technology. This time around you really feel the heartache beneath Con’s vocals in “Arena,” and the beats in “Come to My Party” are literally in your face.

So what is Con Bro Chill? Hard to say, exactly. Webster’s Dictionary can’t define it, which means that words can’t do it justice. It may be a message that only music can carry, and 3-D Music comes close. CBC is a band, yes, but I believe it’s also a prophecy. Understanding this requires a paradigm shift and a peek into the third dimension. There is an aura of destiny around these guys, and whatever they are, I think it’s safe to say that Con Bro Chill will go down in history as one of the greatest Jon Bon Jovi cover bands of the decade.

A Wonderful Romp Through Time and Space

With this, Con Bro Chill AKA Connor Martin and company's third installment, a new direction in musical adventure and inventionism (currently coining that term) is sought out. Where This Is Cool showed the world who, and more importantly, what, Con Bro Chill is, and where This Is Boom! delved deep into the inner machinations of arguably one of the more insightful and BOOMtastic minds of this generation, 3D Music opens any door that was previously closed. The inner machinations of Con's mind are displayed in proper fashion for all to see. From start to finish, one cannot help but find themselves addicted to the smooth synths and hard bass lines and drum lines, and the magical, and even at times, foreign, nature of the lyrical content.

3D Music is the first full album from Con Bro, a man who must be some form of demi-god in order to put together such sounds, which are truly out of this world. HE is able to take sounds which us as regular Earthlings are unable to comprehend in their raw form, and turn them into strings of music so beautiful that only the almighty Bruce himself can truly fathom. This album is his attempt, and ultimate triumph, at sharing with us the secrets of the known universe, and it would not be a surprise to this reviewer if space and time travel were all made possible in consequence of this album. I will now proceed to review the most important aspects of this artistical masterpiece.

Welcome to 3D Music and Partied Out! achieve their goals in welcoming us to this greatest of assemblages, and unleash Con Bro's inner Party Spirit. The Native Americans once believed in the presence of spirit animals that live in and guide each of us. Connor's animal would most assuredly be some mixture of the majestic gazzelle, and the glorious dolphin, along with the proud hawk and the fierce lion. A combination of all of the elements, Earth, Water, Wind, and Fire, for all four are alive and well within his bright soul.

Power Happy is probably the centerpiece of awesomeness in this dining table of delectable eateries. One cannot listen to this song and not feel compelled to go find the nearest mountain and climb to the top, then subsequently jump off the peak and hang glide down.

Dance Thief. The Lord of the Dance Halls of America.

On the topic of America, Born Free America is surely to be adopted as the nation's new national anthem. Apologies to Sir Key, but times have changed, and with them, so should the anthem that portrays what America stands for, and this song does that better than even Springsteen's Born in the USA. Remember, even the forefathers were listening to this song at the signing of the Declaration.

Arena, along with Come To My Party, is not new to Con Bro's arsenal, but their presences on this album do not diminish their importance. Bruce beckons.

Finishing up this awesome show is included Epic. This song is appropriately timed at 1:11, and causes one to reflect on the tantric voyage of truly epic proportions that has just occurred.

In conclusion, Con Bro Chill is sure to become the Brothority on all things remotely musical in nature. So, sit back, put on those glasses, and prepare to embark to discover the pot of gold at the end of the sound wave with Connor and his band.
