iTunes Review

Monster Magnet’s Dave Wyndorf has an encyclopedic knowledge of psychedelic, garage and hard rock riffs and Monster Magnet is his outlet for re-circulating that information to the modern world. For those who missed Blue Cheer, Black Sabbath, the Stooges, Hawkwind, even early Kiss the first time around, Monster Magnet are among the finest keepers of the hard rock flame. Because the band is also dedicated to bringing forth the loudest sound imaginable, they never suffer the limits of their retro-poses. 2007’s 4-Way Diablo took three years to complete, since Wyndorf reportedly suffered an OD of prescription meds in the interim and needed time to recover. The album comes out at full force, as the title track and “Blow Your Mind” pummel with power chords. “Cyclone” trudges with a drugged out maul. The Rolling Stones’ psychedelic experiment “2000 Light Years From Home” is given a reverent interpretation. And Wyndorf sings from the gut throughout, swinging his authority around with a preening macho smile and a sheepish wink. He knows this territory’s been worked over a thousand times. He also knows, if done right, it’s timeless and transcendent.

DAVE WYNDORF IS BACK FROM THE DEAD!

AMAZING ALBUM - I have been a magnet fan since 1992 - sure we all miss the spine of god and superjudge days but Dave and the Boys are back! Glad Dave healed up well enough to make this great album. I hope we see another magnet in the near future - God Bless the Magnet! Space Rock - Punk Rock - and Dave going crazy again!

The Magnet is back!!

WOW!! That's the first thing I thought when I played this...Totally mind blowing. Magnet has been my favorite band since the days of Superjudge and this album certainly follows suit. It's amazing, anyone who's a Magnet fan or anyone who loves real "rock" will love this album...check it out!

Another great slab of stoner metal

Been jamming these guys since I saw the Superjudge tour....awsome band, great mix of punk, stoner sabbath metal and 60's early 70's vibe. "Wall of Fire" sounds like it could be from the Stooges Funhouse with it's full on attack and the way the bass is mixed more prevelent like "loose" . Great song, my fav of the Cd along with "4 Way Diablo" "Blow Your Mind" and "Slap in the Face". Dave has yet to turn in a bad record, how this guy keeps writting this great music is beyond me. Many bands don't stick to their guns and keep making good solid albums this far into their career. Happy to see he is healthy again.

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Retro-rock visionaries Monster Magnet spent much of the 1990s struggling against the prejudices imposed upon image and sound by alternative rock fashion nazis. In fact, it wasn't until that movement's late-'90s decline that the band's dogged persistence finally paid off, when their fourth album, Powertrip, catapulted to gold sales status on the strength of its massive hard rock hit, "Space Lord." In the meantime, Monster Magnet had managed to become one of the most successful and influential bands...
