Beware...
As usual, K-tel has released a collection of re-recordings, but hasn't labeled them as such. (Kind of like an antique dealer charging full price for a reproduction, no?) "Six Days On The Road" appears to be the original version, but most, if not all of the other tracks are NOT the original hit versions. That said, the songs themselves ARE classics. So if you want to hear great Country songs but don't care about authenticity, this might be worth $11.99.

...but if you're stupid enough to think everyone else will want to buy cheap, inferior re-recordings just because the songs are classic, you deserve what you get for a cheap price. K-Tel always releases re-recordings that never sound like the originals people would want to buy, and they never label them as re-recordings. That's fraud. No one deserves to buy garbage when the real thing is what they really want to hear. And most of the time the music is something you could hear on a Casio keyboard, and the vocal is usally mailed in. No one wants to buy songs they've heard on the radio for 30 or 40 years that sound, remade like they were done in someone's basement. Avoid this, and anything coming from K-Tel, or Goldenlane, or any of the other cheap outfits that sell frauds without a disclaimer that the songs are not the originals.
Yuck!
The point is NOT whether these are great songs or not. Of course they are, or they wouldn't wind up in collections like this. The point is that this is not Skeeter Davis, or Stonewall Jackson, or Don Gibson, or any of the other artists listed here. This kind of stuff should be illegal. It's fraudulent. I'm surprised they continue to get away with it, but maybe it's because people continue to be fooled by it. Money talks.
If I want to hear great songs sung by people mimicking the original singers, I'll go to a karaoke bar.
iTunes: Please stop selling these intentionally misleading collections, or at least label them honestly so that buyers know who they're really buying.
