Album Review
Following the success of his third album, Lee Michaels continued the path of a solo artist — solo meaning that most of the sounds on the record were primarily recorded by Lee alone. Organ (Hammond and pipe), piano, harpsichord, and organ bass create a heavy, dense foundation. Michaels had a unique sound, and along with his larynx-shredding vocals, the results are staggering. Aided by Joel Larson on drums, Michaels does a lot of covers on this record — including "Willie and the Hand Jive," "Ya Ya," and "Can I Get a Witness." Michaels renders them all in an infectious, gospel style. There are only a few originals on the album, and one, "Do You Know What I Mean" (which really sounded like a cover), was a monstrous hit and cemented Lee Michaels as one of the best white blues performers of the period, along with Joe Cocker and Steve Winwood.

5th by Lee Michaels
Glad to see iTunes picked this up. I saw Michaels open for Van Morrison before a crowd of about 500 people in Okla. City, circa 1969. I'd never heard of the guy. He and Frosty absolutely tore the place up. This album is, of course, cleaner than the live stuff, but it's a reminder of what a truly spectacular talent he was. Worth having for anyone who needs a shot of Hammond B3.
5th
a super album in that day and still has a great beat to it. I still love listening to Lee Michaels and know what songs are next in the entire album. A good artist that really never reached his potential and it was a shame. I just glad he gave us the 5th. A BOSS and awesome album. Thanks
Lee Michaels
the work this studio cut is good...Michaels was a great artist and never really reached his potential...
