Album Review
Earthy British folk-rock revivalists Fields blend the lushness of early-'90s Brit-pop with the pagan unease of 1973's Wicker Man soundtrack. The Birmingham collective's debut EP 7 from The Village shows great promise for the young band, channeling the classic sounds of Pentangle, Fairport Convention, and Comus with an eye for the pastoral landscapes of contemporary acts such as Boards of Canada and Animal Collective. Somewhere between the driving "Songs for the Fields" and the electronic-tinged "Roll Down the Hill," Fields have captured a new view of the English countryside that successfully pays tribute to both the stone ruins that litter its windswept hills and the radio towers that loom so confidently above them.

New Band of the Year 2007
I have been in love with this band since they put out their own single in early '06. Incredibly fresh amalgam of '70s Brit folk (Song For The Fields) and recent British bands of the Travis/Coldplay ilk (Isabel). Atlantic have actually been -- refreshingly for a major label -- slow building all year, so that people can discover this for themselves (so here we are). This month they released another single in the UK -- "If You Fail We All Fail" -- that you can also check out in various places online. I thnk it shows even more potential. Seriously, this band is poised for a big breakthrough in 2007.
Isabel + Roll Down the Hill
These two songs, imo, are the best on the album. It's worth $6.99 for the 8 songs, sure -the album's good. But…if you were going to cherry-pick, "Isabel" is the best indie rock song I've heard in a while, and "Roll Down the Hill" is really nice--in a Slowdive, "Bliss-Out" sort of way. (the 30 sec sample reveals nothing)
great sound.
This group needs a better manager or promoter. Some random internet radio station was playing one of their songs when I found this sweet band. And only two reviews on iTunes???(as of 10.5.06) I hope this band gets noticed. Good for road trips. Keep it up guys and gals! -David
