Customer Reviews
Not just another Wainwright
She may have the Wainwright name but like her musical half-siblings she has also managed to break away from being solely associated with her parents. She has a unique sound and a voice that is clear as a bell. I also saw her live for the first time when she opened for Rufus two nights in a row and had heard good things but was anxious to hear for myself and was not disappointed at all! She has a sweet and charming personality on stage and it comes across through her singing. Perhaps a little less so on the recorded versions but honestly I don't bemoan the fact. She drew us in with the lovely lyrics and the banter in between songs. Being able to hear most of these songs two nights in a row was an absolute treat and Saddest Sound as a sing along worked out better than I had expected. I was prompted to buy her EP at the concert and even got it signed and she is just as sweet off stage as she is on. A bright future ahead of her I hope!
The Sweetest Voice
I saw Lucy perform as the opener for her brother Rufus and wasn't sure what to expect. What I heard was one of the sweetest, pure clear voices that I have ever heard combined with a songwriting ability that was very impressive. My favorite track on this EP is "Saddest Sound," because, it passed one of my tests - the first time I heard this song I felt that I knew it already in my bones. Her cover of the Fleetwood Mac song "Everywhere" is also lovely and oh so yearning. If you enjoy clear, folky sopranos like early Joni Mitchell and Allison Krauss, you should listen to Lucy Wainwright Roche.
A Listening Treat
In these days of "in your face" music, it is pleasure to find an artist who has something to say and says it with such a pleasant use of instruments and voices. If you are looking for an album that has 8 songs that you will listen to over and over again, and not consider deleting unwanted tracks, this album is for you.
