The Velvet Underground are in top form on this live album. Recorded in 1969 during shows in San Francisco and Dallas, this half of the two-volume series includes avant-garde cuts: “Ocean” offers an 11-minute odyssey of cymbal washes and surging organs, while “White Light/White Heat” features one of the most mind-bending guitar solos the band ever put to vinyl. But they also deliver infectious, Chuck Berry-esque rock ’n’ roll on “Sweet Bonnie Brown (It’s Just Too Much),” and “Over You” is a simple ballad about an intense crush.
