Despite the title, Sparks’ 1986 album isn’t a greatest-hits collection, but another entry in their mid-‘80s run of colorful electro-pop records. The title track lays it out with characteristic verve, saluting “stark naked modern music” over throbbing synths and horn stabs; the far darker “Shopping Mall of Love” unspools an ominous tale of love and commerce against shuddering drum machines and tape loops. Then there’s “Change,” a surreal meditation on fame, love, and impermanence, featuring Russell Mael at both his most operatic and his wry, understated best.
