Midnight Magic

Midnight Magic

A quintessential '70s funk/soul group, The Commodores are best known for gigantic singles like "Brick House" and "Easy," as well as launching the career of '80s pop-chart dominator Lionel Richie. Over the course of nearly two decades, they put out nearly 20 LPs, had a long run of hits, and won a GRAMMY® for their 1986 smash "Nightshift." Released in 1979, Midnight Magic was their seventh studio album and features the Top 10 ballads "Still" and "Sail On." Appropriate to the times, it's definitely a little more disco than their earlier work, but it also sports some seriously hard funk on jams like "Gettin' It," the Rick James–esque "Sexy Lady," and the horn-laced closer "12:01 A.M." While not The Commodores' most crucial effort, it remains a rock-solid and somewhat overlooked album.
