iTunes Review
As a classically trained vocalist, Annie Lennox is a natural for chorale music. This collection of holiday music is a deep, well-crafted set of songs that range from the obvious (“Silent Night,” “The First Noel”) to the less traveled —“Lullay Lullay (Coventry Carol)” is a heavy track that tells the tale of King Herrod. “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” throws a middle-eastern burn into the age-old classic. “See Amid the Winter’s Snow” features an emotionally rich vocal. Producer Mike Stevens adds a 30-piece orchestra and the African Children’s Choir, who are featured prominently on the French carol, “Il est ne le divin Enfant.” “As Joseph Was a Walking” adds a joyous Celtic arrangement. “Universal Child,” Lennox’s lone original composition, is a solid piano number that falls in well with the traditional material. Fact is, these tunes have withstood the test of time and still contain great emotional pull. A phenomenal singer such as Annie Lennox only makes it more obvious.
Customer Reviews
Transcendent
In a word, transcendent. From 'I've got an angel' in '82 to 'There must be an angel' in '85, it all led to this moment. How can an artist so versed in the depths of despair sing such ecstacy? Only Annie Lennox.
Season's Greetings
Christmas has come early this year, and for the first time ever, I don't mind. Annie Lennox needs no undue praise from anyone. Her legacy is clear. "A Christmas Cornucopia" is a collection of familiar holiday tunes that is delightful and memorable. Annie's voice is still as rich and powerful as ever, and has aged just as gracefully as the woman who wields it. Simply put, it's divine. On top of all this, all the proceeds from 'Universal Child' go directly to the Annie Lennox Foundation which is part of the Sing Campaign that is raising money and awareness for the South African AIDS crisis. Annie Lennox is the last of a dying breed of true artists, and this album is a reflection of that.
Love Her
I love this inspirational woman. Her music is timeless. Love holiday music and this is my new favorite!
