iTunes Review
A Collection of Vibrations for Your Skull finds this Danish quartet recapturing the trippy bounce of The Turtles, Yellow Balloon, and similar ‘60s outfits while inviting comparisons with Fleet Foxes with its inspired use of multilayered harmonies. Behind the wide-eyed sense of innocence pervading these songs is a sharp attention to sonic detail. Deliriously upbeat numbers like “Rain Air,” “Facing the Sun,” and “You and the New World” are irresistible parfaits of soaring choral vocals, effervescent pianos and the occasional rippling marimba. Best along these lines is “What Became of You and I?,” a dizzying distillation of nearly every sunshine-pop motif from The Beach Boys onward. Slyly ambiguous lyrics (e.g., “I feel that something is missing between the daily meals” in “Riddles in Rhymes”) give the listener something to ponder amid all the aural dazzlement. A tinge of angst creeps in with the minor-key “Time Stretcher,” but it’s only a passing a shadow across Treefight for Sunlight’s summertime dreamworld.
