How is it that I'm the first reviewer?
Imagine Explosions in the Sky crossed with AIR and Isis sans distortion pedal and growly vocals. Tristeza has a beautiful chimey sound that is very dynamic and sensitive. This album inspires a quiet, reverent and focused listening, and everything is precisely orchestrated. This is not the predictable and eventually tiresome crescendos you'd get with Godspeed You Black Emperor, but instead a delicate instrumental journey through some lonely but beautiful places.

Known as much for their consistent touring as their prolific output, San Diego's instrumental rock quintet Tristeza formed in 1997. Guitarists Jimmy LaValle and Christopher Sprague, keyboardist Stephen Swesey, bassist Luis Hermosillo, and drummer Jimmy Lehner came together after playing in bands like the Locust, Crimson Curse, Swing Kids, and Gogogo Airheart, among others, and recorded their debut 7", Foreshadow/Smoke Through Glass, soon after.
