Sniff, Sniff......you smell that? Sniff.....Sniff.......smells like the album of the year!

It is nearley impossible for Raunchy to make a bad song and their new album a Discord Electric essentially proves it. Every song is different and has a unique twist. It starts off with Dim the Lights and Run, a sort of Electric Intro track featuring nothing but pop singing that would make Michael Jackson envious. Then it immedialtely changes tempo with the hard hitting Rumors of Worship come up. NGHT PRTY is an essential Raunchy song that could fit almost into any one of thier previous albums. The album then goes south (no not in a bad way) but in a southern rock sort of way with the fantastic tracks Street Emperor and Blueprints For Lost Sounds. Shake your Grave is appropriate for Halloween time, while Tiger Crown emerges as a one hell of a half-way mark. Big Truth changes things up with a popiness appropriate for mainstream radio while the Great Depression showcases Raunchy's thrash influences. The Yeah Thing starts out with pounding drums then emerges with one of Raunchy's biggest choruses yet. Ire Vampire is one of Raunchy's album highlights that is reminiscient of The Great Depression but on steroids. The album closes with Gunslingers and Tombstones with blast beats and catchy choruses galore. This maybe Raunchy's best album yet.

Not the Raunchy I fell for.

I originally fell for the heavy crunching guitar riffs on Confusion Bay and Vognstrup's monster to clean vocals. Once he left, the band adopted a more techno-pop sound. Which was ok because it wasn't overbearing but I've noticed that with each passing album, Death Pop>Wasteland>Discord that the pop keyboard sound is ever more present. This album is not their best at all. It's in all honesty #5 out of 5. You find yourself listening to a nice heavy riff and there is this keyboard playing over it and you just want to scream 'WHY!??!'. Some songs are certainly nice. Most are just average and 'Big Truth' is a massive low. It's not metal, not rock, it's a 100% pop song and does not belong on this record in any capacity. Now I'm not saying I don't like the keyboard sound. It certainly gives them depth. It needs to be used for that purpose though, much like Threat Signal uses it, and not being used for absolutely no reason. For a band that has been around for multiple album cycles this is a step in the wrong direction. Thomsen is a good vocalist just he needs to be a metal vocalist in a metal band. Sadly, I do not like the direction that Raunchy is headed in and will be highly upset if their next album sounds anything like this.

Raunchy leaps forward yet again.

I have been following Raunchy since the "Watch Out" single, and I have yet to see them take any steps backwards. Every single album from these guys has always been a great leap forward. This album is no different. They keep changing, but they keep changing in ways that retains their unmistakable Raunchy sound. This album capitalizes on their twist on Metal with great catchy electronic tunes mixed in. Every song is unique, every lyric is thought out, and every sound is...well, music to my ears. Long live Ruanchy!
