Album Review

This isn’t exactly a normal Christmas album, the kind that a lot of artists use to fulfill label contract requirements, for instance, and the husband-and-wife duo Joey + Rory haven’t filled it with traditional holiday songs, but opted instead to include several new and original songs in the set, and the covers they’ve selected aren’t exactly the usual Christmas songs either. The result is a charming and quirky holiday album that features the Garth Brooks and Kent Blazy-penned “I Know What Santa’s Getting for Christmas,” the fun “What the Hell (It’s the Holidays),” the playful (and probably truthful in most cases) “Let It Snow (Somewhere Else),” and a wonderful cover of Merle Haggard's timeless “If We Make It Through December,” which isn’t exactly a holiday song, although it sort of is, and this version features a duet appearance from Haggard himself. Warm and fun, A Farmhouse Christmas is as unassuming as it is a breath of fresh December air.

A Star To Hang On The Tree!

With this sweet, quirky, whimsical recording, Joey and Rory capture both the Yuletide spirit of yesterday, clearly missing from the glam holiday albums being put out today, and the giddy, child-like fun and anticipation that infiltrates the Christmas holiday when one is young. In a nutshell, listening to this music made me smile and look out the window to see if it was snowing yet! With each song capturing a bit of individuality that stands on its own, highlighting the entire collection is the closer 'Another Wonderful Christmas.' The song paints the Norman Rockwell ideal of Christmas...with the down-home country roots only Joey and Rory seem to be delivering to mainstream country these days. You got to love the effort these two put into all their music.

great Album, i love it. <3

Song 6

I can't believe you have a Christmas song titled "What the Hell"! Joey and Rory, are you kidding me? I want this album - I'm a fan! But this song title and lyric just bugs me. It completely spoiled your efforts, and the meaning of Christmas was trampled by that song. The lyrics of the song seem fine - but that title just doesn't belong on a Christmas album. Hey let's celebrate Christmas and our Savior's birth - what the hell!
