iTunes Review

Nearly a decade passed between The Jealous Sound’s acclaimed 2003 debut album, Kill Them with Kindness, and its sophomore full-length, A Gentle Reminder. The Los Angeles quartet cleverly infuses these songs with welcome nods to late-'90s emo bands like Jimmy Eat World, Mineral, and Sunny Day Real Estate (whom The Jealous Sound supported during its 2007 reunion). The sleepy “Beautiful Morning” opens as if singer Blair Shehan has just woken from a nine-year hibernation and is slowly coming to. His vocals gradually perk up over distant guitar strumming, distorted bass rumblings, and slowly accelerating drums. By the song’s chorus, all four engines are firing through the cobwebs in an interlocking musical chemistry. “Change You” is equally alluring, as Shehan adds a layer of harmonies from verse to chorus, echoing the song’s overlapping structure to achieve a sonic blanket. With winding guitars, stop-start changes, and heartfelt lyrics sung over attractive melodies, “Equilibrium” is a highlight.

Wow

Amazing from start to finish! I love this band! So worth the wait! Buy this record!!! The jealous sound never disappoint

Classic Jealous Sound

Finally, The Jealous Sounds release a new album! It's a great record if you're a fan of the band and/or late 1990s indie rock like Sunday's Best, Skiploader, Neighborly, etc. If you've never heard of any of those bands, well, give it a listen. There's nothing really new here (no dubstep remixes, sorry kids), and that's what makes it great in some ways. Hope Jealous Sound fans buy the record rather than downloading it. Let's encourage the band to not wait 8 years between albums again.

YES YES YES

Album of the year!!!!
