iTunes Review
After finally achieving success with their previous album, Eyes Open, Snow Patrol set out to balance between their newfound accessibility and a desire to break past all creative barriers. “Take Back the City” crackles with a tough pop-rock drive, singer Gary Lightbody channeling an urban energy and an ‘80s New Wave groove. The song’s obvious joy for living is more subtly weaved into the existential wallowing that haunts the space-themed tracks, “If There’s a Rocket Tie Me To It” and “The Planets Bend Between Us,” where Lightbody sounds less self-assured and more angst-ridden. “Lifeboats” uses a stereo-pan on Lightbody’s double-tracked vocals for a cool, disorienting effect. “The Golden Floor” evokes a spiritual dance with its tribal rhythm and dark keyboards. Recorded in both the bucolic Irish countryside and the urban frenzy of Berlin, A Hundred Millions Suns brilliantly plays between the two worlds, offering moments of contemplation and chaos. Then there’s the 16-minute finale, “The Lightning Strike,” where three movements build to the end of the world, dancing to the joyous finish. Snow Patrol are unafraid of their grand ambitions.

CHASING CARS THE BEST SONG??
First off, this is a great album, and though you can tell that Snow Patrol is maturing, they still continue with the base sound of what has made them a great band. However, for all you sheep who say this album doesn't have a hit song like Chasing Cars, please realize that song is not even CLOSE to their best song. It's a song that was created as a generic ballad for all the idiots out there who don't know true music. It's a radio push, nothing more. The radio stations know most of you people have no clue about real music, so they loop mostly crappy music on a 3-hour basis.
This is no "Chasing Cars"...
...Thank God! I've recently been listening to Snow Patrol's older material...way back when they were an indie alternative group, very lo-fi stuff. I have to say I am becoming a huge fan of their '98 release of "Songs for Polarbears". It reallly has that lo-fi, made in the basement feel. Of course it is not for everyone, but I believe it is so much better than their "Eyes Open" and "Final Straw" material. I think "A Hundred Million Suns" incoporates their indie feel sound of their 90's debut and their more polished recent records. I use to think Snow Patrol was a pale comparison of Coldplay (courtesy of every radio/ Tv station overplaying Chasing Cars). Yes is was a beautiful song, but if you actually take the time to listen to their other records, Snow Patrol has produced much finer work. So I am pretty glad to listen to this whole record and appericate that Snow Patrol really is a talented band. As soon as I heard the lead single, "Take Back the City", I was hooked. I could not believe it was them. One of the catchiest songs this year. A great up-beat song. Wow
I have been a fan of Snow Patrol for a long time now, and I have to say this album just blows me away. My expectations were not that high after hearing their single but this album is amazing. I loved Final Straw and this one matches that album. I would suggest all SP fans to buy this album.
