iTunes Review

In 1973 Motown harvested the cream of their Christmas crop, comprising the best holiday-themed tunes from the Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, the Temptations, the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, and Smokey Robinson & The Miracles to make for one of the most soulful Christmas albums ever. The Jackson 5 kick off the celebration with their funky take on “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” but it’s Stevie Wonder who really gets the party going with “What Christmas Means To Me,” a bouncing and catchy tune that’s impossible not boogie to. Diana Ross & The Supremes put a groove in “My Favorite Things” that’s almost as cool as John Coltrane’s version. They also give “Joy to the World” a triumphant vibe with a powerful string section and intense backing vocals. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more danceable version of “Jingle Bells” than the one here performed by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, especially with that strutting drum beat and funk-heavy guitar. Marvin Gaye’s “”I Want to Come Home for Christmas” could very well be the best Holiday slow jam ever recorded.

A Motown Christmas MUST HAVE!!!

This is the very best ever Soul Christmas Recording ever! My mom and I played this album nearly to death from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Soulful and filled with the holiday spirit this is a timeless holiday classic. A must have addition to your music collection.

Yes!!

I must have played this LP to death during the holidays as a child.

Perfect Holiday Music

An amazing amount of quality Christmas covers for $8. Usually there are a couple of tunes that make you wince on these compilations, but none here. (although The Temps doing "Rudolph" comes too close). I'll even lift my ban on purchasing any Michael Jackson tunes to pick up the old collection.
