iTunes Review

The Paris-based duo of Finnish vocalist Olivia Merilahti and Frenchman Dan Levy turns out a surprising debut, one that delivers an exuberantly playful and adventurous punch right on the kisser. Merilahti sings while both play keyboards and various other instruments. The Dø swerves between cheeky kid stuff (the sassy, Go! Team–inspired “Playground Hustle,” the coy “Stay”), urbane M.I.A.–meets–Lady Sovereign cool (“Queen Dot Kong,” “In My Box”), catchy indie rock (the feverish “Aha,” the galloping, handclap–driven “Tammie”), and even global jamming (the Finnish-language "Unissasi Laulelet," the smoky, downtempo “Coda”). There are a few traditional pop moments here, like the ballad “Song for Lovers,” but those mostly accentuate the duo’s flair for reshaping the familiar into something new, as when The Dø turns the semi-ballad “The Bridge Is Broken” into a delightful, swinging hodgepodge of tambourines, spare acoustic guitar, and ambient noise. Merilahti’s imperfect crooning on “At Last” is mesmerizing, and the swaggering finger-pointing of “On My Shoulders” is delivered brilliantly like a barely contained temper tantrum.

Best new indie band I've heard this year

I really love her voice

Really varied and fun!

This album is full of reall different sounding songs, but still really cohesive and fun. It's a great album overall, and definately worth buying! I don't really know much about them , but I read a review on insound.com which promoted the album , and I purchased it just based off of the description, and i was NOT dissappointed!

Worth the buy, check it out!

amazing!!!

i usually am not that fond of indie music but when i heard the do my ears were in heaven. i love their combo of congo drum beats that give their song a deep bass, as well as the lead singers soft sweet voice. its so relaxing. my fav song is "on my shoulders". i listen to it everyday while walking to my dance class!!!!

A French-Finnish duo claiming whatever sounds capture its fancy as its own, the Dø (pronounced “doh,” like the first note of the solfege scale) features multi-instrumentalist Dan Levy and vocalist Olivia Merilahti. The pair met while working on the music for the 2005 French film Empire of the Wolves and, taking the first letter from each of their first names, christened their own project the Dø soon after. The duo’s first release, a three-song EP that included “The Bridge Is Broken,” a song composed...
