iTunes Review

Rolling on stately rhythms of brooding grandeur, Coldplay made good on its initial promise with an outstanding sophomore album. A Rush Of Blood To The Head (2002) kept faith with the band’s audience by further mining the lyric depths and sonic chasms heard on their debut Parachutes. Echoing the stark atmospherics of Pink Floyd and the emotionally unguarded vocals of Brian Wilson in his prime, Coldplay creates music of austere power throughout this album. Singer Chris Martin’s luminous falsetto achieves an aching poignancy on tracks like “Politik” and “Amsterdam,” lending elusive colors to his elliptical lyrics. There’s a majestic power to the band’s stripped-down ensemble playing, whether they’re unreeling a loping groove on “In My Place,” weaving a swirling melody on “Clocks” or painting a bleak aural landscape on the title track. “God Put A Smile On Your Face” may be the album’s high point – Martin’s spiritual intimations mesh with the shimmering flow of the track flawlessly — amid the incisive playing and quiet intensity throughout.

cause Coldplay is catching up rapidly. This album would easily be any band's best album (however Coldplay happens to have this one masterpiece...its called VIVA LA VIDA!!!), because this is simply incredible! It is the complete opposite of X&Y: it is very acoustic, and it grows on you. Earlier I said that Rush of Blood is overrated. Forget that, it didn't grow on me yet. Here's my song-by-song breakdown!

1)Politik 9/10: How on earth was this not a single? Starts of the album with a bang!
2)In My Place 7/10: The only song on this album that gets boring. Doesn't deserve to be a single.
3)God Put A Smile Upon Your Face 9/10: A happy Coldplay song? Believe it! This tune is just fun!
4)The Scientist 10/10: Incredible. The 2nd best piano song ever (behind Come Sail Away by Styx).
5)Clocks 10/10: This is everyone's favorite, and for good reason! It has the catchiest piano riff I've ever heard!
6)Daylight: 9/10: This song gets you pumped up! Very energetic and loud!
7)Green Eyes: 8/10: A small letdown after a couple exciting songs, but it grows on you.
8)Warning Sign: 9/10: Beautiful lyrics + great guitar = almost perfect ballad!
9)A Whisper 8/10: A little too similar to Daylight, but still blows your mind.
10)A Rush of Blood to the Head 9/10: Slowly builds, with incredible lyrics.
11)Amsterdam 10/10: Truly beautiful. An incredible yet sad closer.
