Fantastic
October Fall is one of the best bands to come out in 2006. They have clever, catchy lyrics and wonderful vocals. I discovered them on Purevolume, and fell in love with them immediately. They’re a great band, and it would definitely be worth your time and money to buy this album. Here is my opinion on the songs from Season in Hell 1. Second Chances: Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy) lends his vocals to this song. A great opener for the album. A great song overall. 4.5/5 2. Caught in the Rain: The first song I heard by October Fall. A really good, catchy song. 4/5 3. Keep Dreaming Upside Down: Hayley Williams (Paramore) lends her beautiful vocals here and makes this song sound amazing. A really nice song. 4/5 4. Walking: This is a sad, hopeful song. Really great. 4.5/5 5. It Was Summer Baby Steps: This song is okay. Not the best, but still worth the 99 cents. 3.5/5 6. Tongue Tied: In my opinion, the best song on this album. It’s beautiful, clever, amazing. If you only download one October Fall song, make this one it. 5/5 7. Hey Hey: Another average song. But once again, still worth it. 3.5/5 8. Here We Go: One of my other favorites. Very, very catchy and fun. 5/5 9. Keep it Comin: Another favorite. A really great song. Catchy beat and lyrics. 5/5 10. Part of Me: A good song. A little on the mellow side, but still very nice. 4/10 11. If We’re All Alone, Aren’t We In This Together: A really great song. A good way to end the album. 4.5/5 So if you don’t want to buy the whole album, at least spend 3 bucks to buy Tongue Tied, Here We Go, and Keep it Comin. I hope this was found useful =]
A Little bit of old, A lot of New
great sound, unique... some nice elements that are similar to bands like Fallout Boy and Panic! At the Disco, but hace a softer tone to them. i must say that this is a must have for those who enjoy the alt/emo scene. Def check out Tongue Tied, Hey Hey,and Second Chances. The first single, Walking is really nice to listen to as well.
Great stuff!
This is another one of those albums that for whatever reason I HATED when I listened to it the first time. Popped it out and put it aside for a couple weeks. Well, I’ve given it another chance and I can happily report that I was totally wrong the first time around. This is a really great collection of songs! I was not previously familiar with October Fall’s music, so I can’t comment on how “A Season in Hell” relates to their other work, but I can say that everything from the musicianship, lyrical content to recording and production is excellent. Very clean, but without being slick and overdone - very listenable. As far as what their music actually sounds like, I hear a lot of Weezer and Get Up Kids, but mixed with some ‘50s rock and roll. An odd combo, and its probably not what THEY would say, but its what I’m hearing and I like it! I’m generally not a big fan of bands that use keyboards as a primary instrument – its ok if they appear on the occasional song – but here, they’re well integrated and used effectively. Often I find the addition of keyboards/piano etc takes what would have been a really rock song and just makes it a sissy boy crapfest…. And that doesn’t happen here at all. As a matter of fact, many of these songs (particularly the lead track, Second Chances) have a really anthemic feel – strong hooks that grab you right away and pull you in. I could see plenty of movie soundtracks drawing heavily from this album And hey, any band brave enough to have a banjo solo in their lead track gets my vote anyway! So stop by their Myspace page and give them a listen. If you even remotely think you like what you hear, then I’d suggest picking this CD up!
