Album Review

With guests including David Sylvian, Heaven 17's Glenn Gregory, and Steve Howe, A Secret Wish is synth-rock with an eye toward orchestrated pop as well as a bit of sampler experimentation in the grand ZTT tradition of Art of Noise. There's a distinct lack of songwriting on the album, and though the synth-grooves are tight enough to keep it flowing for most of its length, A Secret Wish occasionally falls flat from its own weight.

absolutely classic!

I can't understand the All Music Guide review. This is incredible stuff -- so far ahead of its time in 1985 that it almost seems cutting edge today. I still listen to this album a lot, and it never seems to get old. It's all very interesting, and "The Chase" is a great example of a classic 80's punk-balled that can't be beat. All in all, the album as a whole has a great epic feel to it...

I highly recommend this for any well-rounded 80's collection.

an absolute gem of a record - timeless, layered, and masterful

Put into a historical perspective, 80's "synth pop" has admittedly received an ultimate bad rap as being cheezy and plain crap (and there's much out there to support that: When in Rome. . . Kajagoogoo, OMD, etc. . ). This album, however, is truly TRULY the one to shatter that entire (mis)conception. This is a masterfully-produced orchestral wonder, truly flawless sound and songs, and Claudia Brucken's heart-piercing voice and vocal range is . . . truly. . . just right. This album has it all, great SONGS, great PRODUCTION, great singing, and anyone who claims he/she is an "expert" in 80's music and doesn't know this band is a damned dirty fool. Sorry OMD fans for that prior comment, but some of their sh/t is truly cheesy.

Essential Album : Timeless : Classic

This has got to be one of the best crafted albums that you will ever hear. From start to finish, it is a solid record and has been my favorite for close to 25 years! Yup! Released in 1985. Essential if you are into electronic music/ 80s music.

WARNING: The original version of "Jewel" is 3:07 the one included here is a re-mixed version at 6:22. You must get the shorter version to maintain the continuity of the record and original idea of the song itself. (Geeking out, here.)
