Rare and Beautiful
I wasn't really prepared for this album. After hearing Joel play live a few weeks ago, I bought this CD and found it to deliver everything I thought it would. Joel does a great job at mixing full-blown art-pop arrangements and the occasional quiet acoustic number, with his command and melodic gifts handily making each approach work. Needless to say, all of this has a personal stamp that will most likely impress listeners.
very very good and getting better
The only reason I give it 4 stars is because this guy will just get better and better for sure (gotta leave room for 5 stars on a future project). I really like Take Everything and These Thoughts. Very honest. He is fun live too. I saw him at The Marina in Florida last week and he had the audience right in the palm of his hand. Can't wait to see him again and for a future full length CD/Album.
From the heart
The music comes straight from the heart both in terms of vocals and the instrumentation. The sincerity of Joel Rakes is refreshing and provides for a great listening experience. I have had this album for some time now, and never tire of it. I highly recommend downloading the entire set.
